Check your coil wire and the wiring harness going to the optispark itself. Its likely one of those are worn out.

i'm brand new to the lt1. i was told that if i have spark i have no need to worry about the opti(makes sense to me) the spark seems strong also. could i be wrong?

No this is incorrect, If the MAF sensor was good the car can start with it conected or disconnected, if it is bad it may cause starting/runing issues when connected but when you disconnect it the computer will start and run in a crappy preset SD mode. It's another limp home failsafe that GM put into these cars...

To the original poster; to rule out airflow issues, disconect the plug on the MAF sensor and see if it starts. If it does then check the intake tubing between the sensor and the TB because I have seen a leak there pull air in that is not measured and cause the same symptoms you described, and more then likely isf your car is unmolested they MAF didn't just go out. Check the basics first before throwing money at it by replacing parts...

This man knows hip hop.

Narrow it down before you spend any money on replacing new parts. I learned this the hard way.

Because it didn't throw a code, I am having a hard time believing it is the MAF. Take my advice and check your ignition coil wire -- mine was so worn out it would actually pop off while I was on the interstate, and the car would basically die at 80mph and I'd have to coast it off to the shoulder. A lot of the time if it is the factory coil wire, it is pretty worn out and the boot itself doesn't sit on the ignition coil correctly.

Like I said earlier. Couple things to check.

Ignition Coil Wire.

Wiring Harness going to the opti along the passenger side of the intake manifold (and down by the water pump)

Ignition Control Module (ICM)

my opit is bad and the car starts still, with my 96' if the intake elbow is not properly sealed it will stall your car out, whats wierd is that the 94 keeps running. It could look fine from the top side sometimes these will get torn on the underside.
