Default 99 LS1 over my LT1?

Alright, i know i shouldn't be posting this here, but I post most of my threads in here and wanted the input of the normal viewers of this section. I made a thread in the LS1 newb page and I'm going to paste it in here. Thanks guys.

Well, i found a nice 99 A4 SS for sale. (3:23 geared) I took a look at it tonight and it runs and looks very nice. Garage kept, clean paint, shifts smooth, new tires, no rips in the interior, monsoon stereo, with 86,000 miles. Original owner and he is 61 years old. No modifications done to the vehicle, except a LS6 intake with a K&N filter. I'm trying to get 10,000 for the car and i think he is going to take it. What do you guys think about the price and the car? Is there common problems with the 99 Camaro SS i should no about? Anything i should be worried about, or look for? Maybe it's too expensive...

This is my problem. I currently have a clean 94 Z28 with a motor that has been rebuilt and runs good. I like my interior a lot better, because it's the two toned grey and red. I also like how the console curves towards the driver. Although, the gauges in the LS1 are nicer. As far as speed goes, my car has bolt ons. LT headers, matching Y-pipe, CAI, and a tune. Honestly, the SS does not feel much faster. The LT1 would beat it from a low roll, but the SS felt pretty good after 70. So, speed isn't what will make me buy this car. I just really like the look of the SS and i think the 99 SS rims look pretty sharp. So, what do you guys think? What are the pro's and cons Vs my car and the LS1 SS? If i'm going to get another Camaro, i want to make sure it's going to be a lot better, you know? I don't want to spend money on something that isn't much different, if you know what i mean.

Thanks for the help! Quick responses would help, due to me making my decision possibly tomorrow.

Also, would it be better for me to try and find a manual, or does the A4 LS1 do it's job fairly well? I have no problem driving a manual, it's just that i know if i get one and i race, I'm going to shift hard and go through some clutches...

By the way, does the 99 SS have traction control? If so, can you turn it off and where would that be located? I couldn't find anything...

I'd go for it. Your car sounds great, but I love a nice SS.

If have a traction control, the button is at the radio bezel area, right under the A/C vents. It should say ASR.

I loved my LT1, but this car is better in alot of ways. But it was still a hard choice. 10K for a clean SS is a good deal I think.

And with a stall A4 LS1 do very well, I cut a 1.73 60' and 1/8th mile of 8.04 with this car the first time out at the track with it in Aug. And you know how hot it is here in florida in Aug. I think I have alot more to get outta her...

I have both as bone stock street cars, and do like the LS1 better. The price sounds good to me, I know I woudn't sell my '98 for that. Both my LT1 and LS1 just blow the tires off from a "slow roll", so can't say my LT1 car is any stronger there. Just tire smoke from both. The factory tuning is part of that weak low end feel guys talk about with the LS1. After tuning both of them, I can't tell much difference down low, but my LS1 is certainly faster than my LT1 after it hooks. I'd say go for it if you can swing it.

Good luck, Ed

For $10k a 99 SS sounds like a steal, the mileage isn't bad on it, and its clearly been taken care of. Go for it.
