You can do it yourself but you need some tools that aren't in a everyday tool box.
If you've never done one before and you want to install them, find someone that will help you do it that has done it before.
This is not a beginers project.
Need a press, bearing splitter, dial indicator, capilers are good to have too, magnetic base for indicator, BIG socket set with tools capable of backing it up, I know on my 8.5" rear the pinion nut is 1 1/4" and you will need air or a BIG breaker bar to tighten the crush sleeve. ultra low ange torque wrench capable of say 1-50 INCH POUNDS measurement beam type works best. Having done it and having a good selection of tools I still consider this to be a full day project figure on a whole weekend for your first attempt and then to maybe have to go back and try again if it makes noise.
