What is your deck height?
The Felpros are about right for a zero deck block but not much else.

The Felpro .039 compressed would be an OK choice, would result in decent but not great quench. Is a good reliable gasket the ONLY issue I have with it is the thickness which like I said is good for zero deck like you have, but if the piston is down in the hole you really should use something thinner which is why I asked.

Not with a zero deck unless you want to see him bounce a piston off a head.

I used regular LT4 head gaskets, Felpro makes them for aftermarket replacement, never an issue.

I have the Mr Gasket Co MLS head gaskets. They have a 4.060" bore and have a .040" compressed thickness. For $60 each I found them hard to beat.

People, head gaskets need to be chosen with strong consideration to quench.

"This one is good" is not the right way to choose.

First pick a few that fit the quench range you want/need then decide which ones fit your need/budget.

$60 each is near Cometic pricing so if you spend that much make sure they are reusable like Cometics and some other gaskets in that price range and make sure you get the right thickness because they have a lot of options.

The Mr Gasket Co MLS gaskets are reusable.

What do you think the quench should be set at 96capricemgr?

Depends on the exact parts used and I am no expert at it but generally for a LT1 you are going to be looking at .030-.045 on a well built detail oriented motor. Motors will run fine with more you just can not push the compression limits as far.
The current stock shortblock in my car is .026 deck height and I am using a .026 Mr. Gasket 5716 not very good quench at .052 but it is fine at 11.5:1 with the current cam and tuning on 93 octane. On a built motor you have a choice though and can make efforts to improve quench which will make it less likely to detonate, always a good thing.

I would suggest trying to run .035" to .039" quench with his current mods. If he is going to run a large shot of N2O I would stay to the high side. Cometic makes a MLS gasket that is .036" compressed thickness for all motor to small doses of N2O.
