Default Thoughts on the COMP XFI 230/236

just as the tittle says......waiting for it to get here along with all the valvetrain componets,....just wondering if the guys running it like it, my motor is all stock with just bolt ons and a stall right now, but planing on running some heads to compliment the cam as well as a TNT F1 kit...not really worried about driveability as a DD since im in the middle of getting an X-runner Tacoma to serve that purpose..

There is bigger, but this is probably the best running cam for stock untouched heads. But you have to do a search, because this has been drilled in the ground VS other cams.

If your looking for larger get a custom grind. IF you dont like to do that go with a GM847 or CC306

If I were you , I would do heads and cam at the same time with a bigger cam if it will not be a DD. Just make sure you have the supporting mods. (bolt ons and Gear and all that. )

Great cam. Comp makes it on a 576/571 113LSA but if you are a 6speed car i'd get it ground on a 110.

Search here and on Camaroz28.com about the xfi grinds. Bret says they can be bad news if not set up correctly. I'm going to try mine out and will let you know asap.

Mine's the .576/.571 on 113+1 LSA...

Love the sound at idle, pulls like a freak on boost...

Cant wait to see what it does with 15ish psi

i am looking at the 230/236 iwth .510/.520 lift. how much different is this one than the one you all are speaking of? I assume theres two camshafts wtih different lifts. the other awith .576/.571

i am doing a cam swap with stock heads (stock port/valves that is). am i better off with the other 230/236 cam with more lift?

the one you mentioned with the .510/.520 lift is the older xe version, i believe that CMotorsports sold those a while back. to my knowledge the new XFI230/236 is made for the LT1 in specific. nothing wrong with the xe230/236 just get good springs to go with it and you should be good. i ran it in my old motor with no problems, and Alvin@pcmforless nailed the tune. never had any problems with it, and other cam only LT1's didnt seem to be a problem on the street: full bolt-on LS1's were a handful though. the xfi cams seem to perform well but, like always if you want the most power consider a custom grind.

Thats what I have in the car now. It dynoed 342/334 on a dynojet through a th350 and a Moser 12 bolt. I do turn the car to about 67-6800 rpm though. She loves the RPM.

so would i be better off with the older 230/236 cam or the new 230/236 cam with more lift? and also, the more i look into custom grind cams, the more confused and lost i become. who does the best custom grind lt1 camshafts????? i cant tell you the countless amount of ls1tech threads on custom grind cams that have taught me nothing

i'd go with the XE grind on the stock valves, i've heard the XFI grinds are hard on stock valves.

I bought the "off the shelf" version of the 280XFI and hope to see good results with it. I'm kinda suprised to see someone trying it out with FI.

I have the XFI280, beautiful cam, worked out of the box and was able to drive 200 miles on it, without a hiccup to get a tune.
396 hp throught a bad automatic, haven't gone back now that I have the 6 speed but know the numbers will be better.

Actually, I cheaped out on the custom grind so my engine builder selected this as his next 'suggestion'... Says with the wider LSA it'll do fine with FI.

Also says its gonna make excellent power on boost; We'll see by the end of the month!
