Default Trad. dist. setup

In my 94 z28 I plan on getting rid of my opti and using a carbed intake with a traditional post distributor. I know this has been done before and have been reading on it. I plan use a msd crank trigger. What I dont understand is what to use for a cam postion sensor? What will go in place of the opti? Can I use my stock computer and ignition and coil with this setup or will I have to go with megasquirt or Bigstuff setup and better ingnition and coil? I considered using the gmpp intake is there a better intake? Thanks all help would be appreciated

If your getting rid of the opti why not just go DIS with Megasquirt. You can buy the parts kit to put together the Megasquirt for around $200 and you can get a used EDIS system from a Ford Mustang with coil packs and ignition module off eBay for another $200 or so and a good wide band 02 for say $300. Make up a bracket to hold the Ford pick-up sensor and adapt the reluctor ring to your crank dampner/pully. You can "piggy-back" the Megasquirt on the factory computer and share every sensor that they both need (tps, map, coolant temp., intake air temp, etc.) By going this route you would have complete control over ignition and when used with a modified carbureted intake with fuel rails and a throttle body you could control fuel as well. Yup, been thinking about this myself. It most definately can be done and the Ford ignition is good up to 15,000 RPM. Good times.

If you honestly asked about the GMPP carbed LT1 intake you are nowhere near ready for this project.

What are you looking to gaine by doing this?
