Default LT1 Exhaust question

Is there anyway to stop the popping or backfiring noise that LT1's make while decelerating in gear? I love the way my car sounds when decelerating while in gear but 90% of the time it will pop through the exhaust once or twice and it sounds like a canon with the 4 inch exhaust. I have riden in and seen many LT1's with different exhaust systems and all of them do it but you can't really tell with a flowmaster or stock exhaust. Is there any way to stop this? What causes it?

I have that, pops here also.

Your 4" Exhaust won't help, that's really open. Depends on how open your Exhaust is, and that these Engines are up there in the Compression.

I meant the bullet plus his muffler. Yours is bullet only. Trust me, add the bullet and no more popping.

mine does it. But i am chalking that up to a few things.

1 being that i have 3" on a stock motor
2 it has a few holes in the pipe
3 it needs a tune up

Im shure there are more things that cause the popping noise but i cant recall them right now. Also 4" sounds to be a bit extreme. Why do you think you need a 4" sysem?

The only 4" that I have ever seen was a single 4" on a LT1 383 Procharged setup, and that thing could run..

Its the www.mufflex-performance.com mandrel bent 4 inch exhaust. I wanted something different than every other exhaust and while I was doing the LT1 swap I had a guy call me wanting to sell one. I like it and I like seeing the look on people faces when they see it

I have no idea how to stop the popping. Mine wont do it till I'm below 2500 on decel which leads me to believe its just air getting up the pipes when there's not as much coming out. Its simply the unburnt gas fumes mixing with fresh O2 in the exhaust pipe which makes that popping. Any leaks (especially around the headers) or HUMUNGOUS pipes will add to this effect. Tuning might help a little too I guess. My car did it stock but, I never noticed it cause it was alot quieter. watching my old dyno vids now, I hear the faint pops and realize it did it then too.

^^^ How is that 4" system with clearance? Any pics of that thing on the car??
