My MAF is tuned out but the MAF is still there. I did descreen it though. MAF is still there only because it helps with fitment of my elbow and aftermarket intake blah blah

WHAT??? the only reason to tune out the MAF is to eliminate it as a restriction. Why would you leave it in there? Go by a 3 1/2 piece of pipe cut it to fit and put that in its place.

My last N20 backfire descreened the MAF FOR ME! haha, all the way into my K&N filter and splash panel.

Up until then, It was screened. I have heard and trust, that the screen is used to straighten out any turbulent air charge.

Just leave it, it's not hurting performance in anyway!

madz28 tune asks if it is descreened or not. Ion wouldn't ask if it didn't make a tuning difference...

Yea I have my stock MAF with the screen, and doesnt the computer compensate after running a few cycles for the temporary lean condition caused by the MAF being ported and descreened?

I dont see a point for descreening it, my screen catches a lot of junk. Like said before it makes the air flow more laminar and less turbulent.

Plus my way of seeing it is MAF's are freaking expensive, why take the chance of destroying one for absolutely no gain in Performance?

De-screened, and pretty much a straight Intake with the LS1 Lid. There is all kinds of opinions here..
Whoever up there had theirs tuned out and still has it inplace, get rid of it, it's smaller in diameter and therefore a restriction..

From wich magazine does this article came from?

It seems to give 24cfm when you take out the screen.

By the way mine is out and the pcm is tune for it.

I took mine out after reading of the benefit of removal, the artical is availble online if you google GMhightechperformance free mods. The screen does nothing other than restrict flow, so that the cars will meet federal horsepower, airflow, and emissions regulations. As long as you descreen it using caution ie dont hit the sensors, you will have increased throttle response. As long as you are running a decent air cleaner there should be little to no debris penetration.
