Some people on camaroz28.com were giving me a hard time for taking the screen out of my MAF.
Thanks for all your time.

The MAF was designed to work with the screen. The flow of air needs to be stabilized to get an accurate reading. This will yield better tuning among other things. No hp is to be gained by taking the screen off.

I'm sure this topic has been beaten to death a few times. No, I haven't searched... but, I would value opinions from the big tuners on this issue vs. the average joe saying its a good idea. I descreened mine back before I knew any better and have no apparent problems... but, I would prefer having it now just for piece of mind.

Agree. Why take it out? There's nothing gained by removing it, and possible issues if you do.

I say leave it in. The only two ways I can see it improving power is 1) SLIGHTLY decreasing air flow resistance, or 2) fooling the PCM into a lean condition by making the sensor not read accurately, which could be dangerous for the motor. Personally, I don't think it's worth the risk.

Unmolested MAF here. MAF ends? Wow, I didn't realize those were still in production. I bought a set of Whisper MAF ends back in '99 because the plastic ends would 'help cool the intake charge' and also knocked out the screen because it was a 'restriction'. Once I bought my first tuning package, I ditched all the MAF trickery, including the MAF translator and the 'IAT timing tricker'.

these arent the MAF ends you're thinking of. A company commonly known as NX makes them for a reason

I don't know if the screen really does anything, I have taken it out in both my cars and my truck, I haven't noticed anything different really and no problems to mention. Probably does help to increase airflow but at the same time if you haven't cleaned your air filter in a while that will probably restrict it more than a screen could.

Mine has been out for about 5 to 6 years. I have a 94 Z28 no problems yet. I spray the wires with contact cleaner about once a year because of the K&N. Just incase I over oil the filter.

While my tuner was (dyno)tuning, I told him it was descreened. He said thats why and had to make some changes to the tune. Nothing but good results!

Uhh mine is in and it's staying in because I see no reason to take it out and cause problems.

I think some people need to understand how the MAF functions, only after that can you understand why and what it is OK to do too the MAF and how things can be corrected for in the pcm.

Screen thing also comes down too intake tract, have a curve right in front of the MAF and the screen can be benificial, if straight leading up too it then it may make no difference.

Porting a MAF destroys calibration, the calibration can only be restored by fairly signifigant work in the pcm.

Mine has been out for awhile now. I descreened mine back in the day no problems here but didn't see any gain either.
