wasnt it installed from the factory from the bottom? i thought that if you tried to remove the stock motor through the top it would contact the hood?

If you remove your hood and fab up a plate to connect the cherry picker to the four holes your fuel rails mount to it makes it quite easy.

from the bottom is the only way for me,
you pretty much bolt everything on before it goes in.
headers,intake,y-pipe,
this way your not leaning over trying to bolt everything on.
even the tranny this way you can change filter without crawing underneat the car.

Also, out the bottom you can (usually) keep the hood on. Like was said, you can also have the headers, tranny and everything hooked up so you're not on your back. You will be able to have the entire engine harness connected as well. It's not that bad, really.

To answer your question, you'll save dropping the K-member, undoing the brake lines and that's all I can think of as far as saving work.

The only problem I got is that my garage roof is low, does anyone know how high the front of the car needs to be in order to take it of the bottom? Any idea how high?

Don't remember, but my garage ceiling is only about 8' and I did it by taking the hood off.

Here are some pics of mine though the bottom, it should give a pretty good idea of what's involved. I have pulled the motor three time now out the bottom I would not have it any other way.

Damn, I never thought of lifting it up with the stb! That might make it easier to roll out the side/front. Very nice.

took mine out and put in the new one with a chain going from the back of one head diagonally to the front of the other head... and a cherry picker of course... no intake manifold on it either. Was a piece of cake. the happy hooker is a way to do it with the intake manifold still on along with alot of the accessories.

One word of advice, take some wheels/tires, flip upside down and put under th rear tires. The first one we did with ramps and the car wanted to try to roll fowards slighly and then it was wanting to come down the ramps. So after that we always used an extra set of wheels/tires under the rears and have done 18 more without an issue.

Nope. I took mine out of the top with the hood on. It was very easy and much safer than going out the bottom IMHO. Unless you have a lift, you will never convince me going out of the bottom is the easier route

Took mine out the top. Replaced it with the BBC through the bottom. I have since removed the BBC twice and both times I went the bottom route. I don't have a lift. I just used a 4 ton come a long and the header over my garage door. As soon as I had it high enough I placed some bolcks under it for support.

2 times through the bottom no problems, 1 time out the top and I got a broken windsheild. Oil filter got caught on motor mounts.
