Im going to try something like that since im running a stock muffler on my car now.
There are muffler's like that you can buy now. Some use a vacuum signal to open up and others are just spring loaded. Check out the Dynomax VT's also search VOE mufflers.

What facts can you support your idea of the spiral flow being garbage?
I understand you have some times and experience..has anyone else had the same problem?

The fact that it can choke up a motor for over 100 horsepower isn't enough? What more do you want? It doesn't work. Plain and simple.

why do they run them on 800-900hp sprint car engines if they dont flow?
only difference is they put on collector extensions and insert them into the extension..

Why does nascar put in restrictor plates on talledega and daytona? Not everything done in racing is for power.

I made 375rwhp through my hooker catback and 369 through my duals with spiral flows. 2 different dyno's on 2 different days though, but I never gained anything at the track even after a dyno tune either. Then again I made 430rwhp through them on a h/c lt1 so I can't see them being that restrictive on a true dual setup.

I'm talking about a single 3" spiral flow. Not two.

I know that, but if its robbing 100hp with just 1 then they would still be quite a restriction in a true dual setup.

Maybe if you stuck a SINGLE 3" (of any kinda muffler) on a 600-700 HP engine.

I know that My old spiral flows were among the best sounding mufflers at WOT throttle Ive ever heard on a car. But they sounded like a broke down pickup truck while cruising so I had to get rid of them.

That cutaway of the stock muffler is what I expected. I agree with whoever said that a crossflow muffler of any brand cant flow as much as a straight through single in single out muffler. Thats why I went with the Big ol pipe out the left style. Looks like an overgrown V6 from the back until I crank it up. lol. I like being able to see through my mufflers, then you know its not restricting anything.

Did you have an x-pipe? Mine sounded amazing under any driving condition.

^^^No xpipe the way my exhaust dude ran it an x wouldnt work. I switched to one chambers and they were alot better cruising but sounded pretty raspy up in high RPMs.

That has to be one of the most restrictive mufflers I have ever seen. Does anyone know it the stock ones that came on the LS1's identicle to the ones used on the LT1's?

That is a good question....I'd bet they are the same or very close, but the design could have improved some possibly?

Anyone ever try putting a Magnaflow muffler on their car? Just the muffler, not the catback. Saw it online for $90, seems like it's worth a shot. I really want a deep tone from my exhaust. That, and better flow, which from the looks of these pictures can't be that hard to achieve.
that is EXACTLY what i did to my car. Total cost was $156 ($86 shipped for the muffler, $70 for the install)

It has a nice throaty sound but is not loud or obnoxious.

I thought the fake muffler part people always joked about was muffler bearings?
