What does a rotating assembly have to do with HP? If the tolerances are correct, and the assembly is balanced, what else is there? I had him build me a setup with all forged parts for a roadracing car. I have LE2 heads, and LE4 cam that will go on the motor. I am sure this motor will make a ton of HP. Should have it running soon.

yeah i was talking more about the longblocks..... but the short block can have alot to do with HP.... rod length, dead on bore sizes down to the ten thousandth matched with the pistons, weight of the parts used (weight in the rotating assy)....

The heads/cam are more critical which is why I was talking about the longblocks.. I think Golen's longblocks were getting criticized when someone with a 383 made like way below 350 hp.....

Pro-Gram is my first choice, Silver seal second - Try not to ever use Eagle stuff if I have a choice about it.

Personaly have seen 40lbs loss of tq from a short block change. Pistion rings are the #1 fricition point of the pistion engine. We did a crazy ring test where we ran motored single cyd. with many kinds of ring types. Some of them ended up being plastic, moly, crome-moly, stainless, and many others. Also found out the 2nd ring looked to be more friction then the upper.

YES the short block can make HP in some ways.

Anybody know exactly where to get pro gram caps at a decent price? Also what type to get for a LT1 block.

you can call my engine builder if you want..... ask for Lance....

California Street Machine at (707)429-1888..... tell him Jason Brisson referred you and you want a set of Program Engineering 4 bolt caps for your LT1.... he'll probably be able to ship them to you or at least provide you a part # and you can try and go thru your own vendor...

first thanks for the reply since no body else did.

Here is what I found out via email directly from pro grams

" Are you planning on using the stock dipstick? If so, then you will need a set of our SB350C12 main caps. They are a 12.5 degree main bearing cap that is designed for street and strip use where factory dipsticks are used. You can also use a set of our SB350C22’s and they will also clear. If you are planning on putting a sight glass in the pan to check oil level, you can use a set of SB350CSA2’s. These are our most popular caps by far but do interfere with the dipstick. A set includes caps 2, 3 & 4. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions."
