Ok, so my friend had a 383 built and wants to sell it. Someone with a lt1 wasi nterested. I called up the engine builder and they said that there were 3 different blocks used for the 3rd gen lt's. He said something about earlier ones having different motor mounts which means the sbc that my friend had built would not fit into a lt1. Can anyone shed any light on this or give me some info.

The LT1 block is different than your Gen 1 SBC. They were built from 92'-97' and have different coolant hole location's in the block. They will not interchange with each other. The 327 casting block (2 bolt main) has both the tradional motor mount bolt pattern of the Gen 1 SBC and the LT1 motor mount pattern bosses cast into the block. It sounds like you have a Gen 1, one peice rear main seal engine block (87'-00'), that has the provision to be able to run a roller cam.

All that is true, but I think he's asking about dropping in a complete longblock. In which case you have to consider coolant hoses, K-member and motor mounts, and make sure you get a flywheel/flexplate to match the rear main.

Here we go. I am the seller of the engine. The guy who wants it is the owner of a 95 LT1 firebird. It's a complete shortblock with a 2 piece RMS. 4-bolt main ect. ect. Will it work? Leftme4dead should be able to post a link for me to the for sale section that it's in, but I have to go to work now so I haven't the time to post the link. thanks for the help guys.
