Default Nitrous Question?

Just installed a Nitrous Express kit with the 100 shot pills and of course filled out some plugs. A buddy of mine with a similar set-up recommended NGK TR-6, the car idles alot better but just driven around it still doesn't run right, like it has a miss to it. Any suggestions on what plug to run for a 100 to 125 shot?

Derrick

The TR6 gapped correctly (.032) is a step colder than stock. Its going to make the car idle a little bit rougher than normal. I run a TR6 gapped at .032 and it runs just fine on motor and on the bottle.

Where is the miss? Have you checked the rest of your ignition?

Double check all of your spark plug wires for cracks and burns -- and make sure that none of them are arching at mid-range rpms. Also double check the wiring harness going to the optispark along the passenger side of the intake manifold. Sometimes that will wear out and cause some mid-range rpm issues.

I was told to gap them at .045. Could be that it's putting the spark out. The car ran fine prior to the spray.

Sounds like you might need to re-gap your plugs. I would get a new set of TR6s and make sure they are gapped correctly at .035.

I don't know if the regap will fix your issue running normal though, if it behaved fine on spray with the same plugs. Now if it didn't run okay on spray, and now its not running correctly n/a -- then I'd say go ahead and replace them with a proper gap.

If you gapped them at .045 you're probably blowing out the spark or weakening the spark just enough to foul the plugs. I would get a new set and gap them at .035 and let'er rip.

BTW, who told you to gap them at .045??

mine is at .045 but I do have and MSD box

any modifications that you may have made to the engine. As an example, when you raise compression or add forced induction (a turbo system, nitrous or supercharger kit) you must reduce the gap (about .004" for every 50 hp you add). However, when you add a high power ignition system (such as those offered by MSD, Crane, Nology) you can open the gap from .002- .005"
