Msd or Accel Opti?

I had an Accel. It started falling apart inside. I had a misfire and pulled it off and shook it and there was all kinds of rattling. Then I turned it so the pigtail connector on top was facing the ground and shook it and a little washer ended up falling out. I didn't take it apart cause I wanted to turn it in for warranty. I ended up trading it and some cash for a MSD unit at Summit. So far so good with that.

sweet. well here is the reply from msd. Gotta say that was fast replying..
"Sir,
Thank you for your interest in our products. There aren't any issues
with the rotor making contact. There are issues of the o-ring being
installed incorrectly causing the rotor to make contact. So we've
removed the o-ring and supplied a rubber gasket with the new
distributors. Let me know if you need further assistance.
Thanks,
MSD Tech"

Theres still too many issues surfacing about the aftermarket stuff...Except I don't hear much about the Dynatech piece from a while ago...They were like $599, but I dont know much more about them...I'd go with a stocker until the aftermarket gets it act together...

Had my MSD in since August, no issues. Also running 6a, blaster coil, but some Napa POS 7mm wires and some $2 spark plugs.
Seen today I have arcing from the #6 wire to the header.
Is the O ring just the large gasket between the cap and the distributer body??
In any case, I feel the MSD is worth it for the price, you start adding stuff up and it seems like the thing to buy.

well talking to sqr they found the stock opti is worthless over 6k rpm. Thanks to Ion my rev limit is 6800 and I want to utilize it. SQR has a 600hp Impala and they have the same problem I have and thats ignition misses at 6200rpm's. They have a dyno on the car too and they said you can watch the power drop once you get to that point.
On my car I don't think Ion would have set me rev limit to 6800 if it wasn't capable of it with the current mods. Just got to get the opti to handle it.
The Deltech stuff i just found out at 2am it is a big maybe. It still gets it's readings from the optical part of the opti the only thing the opti looses is the rotor which mean it must be fully functional and many guys have had to replace the opti to get the systems to operate properly. Plus the optical unit is one of the biggest issues. The opti becomes a high dollar crank trigger. There is suppose to be some guy that modifies the lt1 intake to utilize the old distributor location as a point for a crank trigger but i donot know what is done about the oiling system?
I read somehwere a right up on the msd opti and they discuss the poor design of the optical read sensor and how they made it so much better and it's not near as sensitive as the stock unit.
I am going to have sqr do some work on my car and I think i am going to have them put one of these in while they are doing mikronite gears, driveshaft safety loop, torque arm, high output coil, and a few other minor things, and a maf swap. And give me a dyno when they are done. Then i can send off and have the pcm tweaked by Ion and re dyno it. Hoping to break the 400 rwhp mark or be real close.
I had 351 at the wheels without a tune and and a malfunctioning opti. The previous owner did this stuff. I have the dyno sheet here. He said he did cap and rotor after that which cured his problem. Supposidly?

I had a problem with my first MSD it only lasted a week then quit. They replaced it and the new one was going a little of 6000, no problems even hit the 6300 rev limiter. I fill the MSD is the way to go. Better optical sensor and bearing.

dynaspark, thunder racing still sells them. Mine works perfect even after I spilled oil and sprayed water on it. Not knocking the msd but the dynaspark has been a proven reliable unit.

I love my MSD opti, especially since its been raining like crazy since I put it in, and zero problems, with the stock one you could tell when it got wet or moist inside, but now its running like a pro,
Anyways, what is this about the O-ring, mine had an o-ring, is there any problems with it? I am going to email them and ask what is the deal

well either msd or the dynaspark they are both good. Msd may be a bigger company with the ability to offer it a little cheaper. Yell you never know dyna could be getting some of it's stuff through msd like the drive potion of it thats cut from billit.
