Default Graph of 3.23 vs 3.73 Gears

I had this on my computer and I thought I would share it with you guys. This is just a graph of the rear wheel torque of an automatic 3.23 vs 3.73 geared car. I still don't understand why people clain 3.23 gears pull harder up top because according to the graph, the 3.73 gears have more of an advantage everywhere expcept in a few spots.

they pull better up top because as you can se in your graph over around 140 they have no more speed left...you have to shift into the next gear...and my 3.73 with 6800 shift points never got me past 125

Ask and you shall receive Though I really got to ask, who races up to 140 anyways unless your car is in the single digits I love my 3.73s to death!

EDIT: Made it a bit easier to read.

Mileage and high horsepower shouldn't be in the same sentence....

Auto 3.73s
manual (93)3.73s(94-97)4.10s

What do you do with your car?

But the stall of the t/c should make a large difference here. Just too many variables to test them all unless u have and unlimited budget. That trans has a lot of drop and dead time with each shift.

I dont see the type of auto trans listed but have to assume an 4L60E with the 3.06/1.63/1 gearing. But looking at the graphs then the 4.10 ratio is the winner to 100mph. Why is the 3.73 so popular if the 4.10 is faster?

4.10s with a 26" tire is a bit much rpm at highway cruise with the A4.
The torque converter as you said though will have a big impact on this, would completely change the graph.

Yes, when I was in the 700+ RWHP range some would ask what kind of mileage do you get? Even at that I was getting in the low 20's on the hi way

Even with a tight LSA cam 4.10s 3800 stall and a couple hundred more HP my car gets better mileage than my truck which is a bone stock half ton Sierra 4wd.

HP doesn't hurt economy the way most assume. Sure it hurts when you are deep in the pedal but normal driving not so much.
