ok, the 96-98 heads are the swirl port design and dont flow as well as the newer ones. Still, they flow 270/200 at .500 stock and can easily flow over 320cfm ported (.500). Im sure the higher lift numbers get close to 300. And thats the bad heads. I have an LT1 now

Ditto, throw some 4.30s in there and that car will MOVE. Had a buddy back in the day running full exhaust, intake, 4.30s, and drag radials and he was running LOW 12s. Single best mod for those cars are gears. Without them, nothing else really matters that much.

the 1996 cobra had the 4.6L 32valve V8. 95 was the last year for the 302.

I put almost three lengths on a Vortech Supercharged '02 GT from 60-120 with my car on the 100 shot.

The older 4v and any of the 2v mod motors you really don't need to be concerned unless they're heavily modded. A good friend of mind has had motors built by Al Pappito (Boss330 Racing) and he always jokes that "2v and performance should never be used in the same sentence."

Get the kit on your car and you'll be in really good shape against the newer 4v cars too

lol i think i had a couple good tight l98/lb9 thirdgens that would have ran with a 96 cobra stock. Those things are pigs, i am suprised he beat you even with mods. I mean his slicks dont even matter rolling at 30 and he needs a good gear to even begin to make up for the 40 hp difference your car has over his. So by rights i feel you did poorly your car wont even need slicks to run hard do to your rear end. So out side of his little timing thing you got beat by half a car during a very brief 30 to 80mph race by a stock 96 mustang cobra with gears?? i say your Z needs a tune up

my car is bone stock with a 273 gear, and my 3rd gear is slipping so thats why we did a 30-80 roll for fun, mig sig mods will be on there in a week or 2, so i think i did damn good for a 2,400$ dollar car against a 10,000$ modded 96 cobra with more power..

4 Valve Cobras typically run low low 13's with a 4.10/4.30 gear, underdrive pullies and drag radials, high 12's in good air.

Yea, I was at the track running some of them, and a guy in a '03 was talking ****. He got a 13.0 to my 12.7(old Engine too ). One of my guys here at work had an older one, I think it was a 1996, he tried to mess with me one day, and I left him at the light. Even the new GT's aren't the greatest, mainly high 13's, low 14's at the track. Basically a 2006 Ford equavilent of the already 14yr old stock LT1 F-bodies. Bout time they caught up to something..
