Default Heating up on Highway

my brother's car is a 94Z A4. it does good in town driving normal temp. but when we get on the highway at a steady speed his temp starts to climb slowly. it has coolant. his fans are working as well. his RPM's at 70 are about 2300 or so. well before i forget to mention he barely swaped his 2.73's to 3.73's. would this be a problem with the car to act like this?

you might want to check your fans. and the fuses to the fans. or the fans themselves. check your radiator cap and your thermostat. check your hoses as well.

If the thermostat is stuck open, the water is going through the radiator too fast and does not have time to cool. If the water temp, comes down after you get off the highway, I would definately say it sounds like a stuck thermostat.

Doesnt really sound like fans would be the problem, the rearson you hear this problem in reverse is because when the cars moving on the highway, the air dam diverts enough air in to the radiator to keep the car cool. When it gets in traffic, no air flow and it over heats due to fan problem. His car doesnt get hot in town, only when moving which is really weird.

i've already put a stock replacement thermostat twice. would it be the waterpump itself? i need to take a real close look at it tommorow in the day time.

I had this problem once and it turned out to be the air damn being ripped off and not deflecting air through the radiator but only on the highway because the fans kept it cool at low speeds. I was new to the f-bods then (bout 7 years ago) but thats what I found out. Hope this helps.

Had the same symtoms on mine, it turned out to be a partially plugged radiator. Drop the fans and feel the radiator after it's warmed up good. Mine was only flowing thru about half of the radiator, the rest was cold to the touch.

Same here. It would be ok around town but on the highway it would run too hot. My radiator was full of crap. Got a new one and it's all good now.

After 40 MPH the fans will not kick in.

KINDA WEIRD THAT A RADIATOR WOULD JUST PLUG UP ONE DAY AND START GETTING HOT BUT i GUESS THATS POSSIBLE.
