Default 355 installed...Wont start!!!

Just installed my new engine ad it wont start.

I have 40# fual pressure at the rail.
I have fire at the plug (tested with in-line bulb tester)
The opti is on right.
The cam is timed right (degreed by two pros and dead nuts on).
The injectors are pulsing (tested with light bulb tester).

I get some muffled "bu-bu-bu" noises but no real firing while cranking. I have poured a couple spoonfulls of gas down he intke. Nada.

Please help.

Well if you are getting fuel and you are getting spark, are you sure the timing is right? Do you have compression? How long have you been trying it? Dumping raw fuel in with out it being burnt is not good on a new motor. You can wash the cylinder walls and then the rings won't seal. I would do a compression check if you think everything else is installed correctly.

The timing has to be right since the cam degreed perfectly. This was doe by two engine builders. The opti is on right. It has bright blue spark at the plug.

The compession has not been gaged but it is tight as hell turning over with plugs in, but this will be added to the check list.

I am starting to think that the injectors are not dumping fuel, they are red SVO 30#ers that I got used off ebay. When I pull the plug I smell what I think is gas but it is not strong so I cant be sure.

How can I check these to see if they are working right?

Here are the facts.
I definitely have 41# of fuel presure at the rail.
I definitely have spark.
I definitely have compression.
I definitely know the opti is indexed correctly.
I know the injectors are pulsing.
I know the timing set dots are lined up.
I know the cam is degreed.
I know the !@#$%^ engine is cranking.
All this added up means that something should explode at least for better or worse.

I have the rockers set at 1/16" - 1/8" turn past zero lash. I am going to set them 1/2 turn past zero lash and try that. Maybe the valves just are not opening enough. Maybe the lifters just cant pump up enough untill the engine actually runs. I have the beehives which are much stronger than my old LT4's.

I dont know what the hell else it can be.

Its alive!!!

It threw a DTC 16 which said bad low res on te opti. I threw a second opti on and it fired up nicely. The wierd thing is I was getting an injector pulse on th bad opti, maybe it was an insuficient pulse or I was testing it wrong. Who knows?

Anyway I am going to take these two optis and make one good one. Engine sounds majorly bad ***. Thanks all
