93's arent slower...if your car is that much slower than other years there could be something wrong with it.

the 93-95 didnt come with the PM rods, they had a different head mold and cam, plus they are OBDI, and 93 is Speed Density so some of that stuff has to do with it. The diff is only like 20hp stock diff from 93-95/96-97 (fastest versions of the LT1)

PM is powdered metal, but the large benefit of powdered metal in the 96 and 97s was negated due to the machined parting surface. Normally powdered metal rods have a "cracked" parting surface (the rod is made whole, then the cap is cracked off). The cracked parting surface helps prevent distortion to the big end of the rod when the cap is torqued down, a machined parting surface doesnt have this benefit.

93s slower??? although rated at 275hp. their faster stock to stock than any other yr. i've seen. when mine was stock (a4) and 160k, it would run 13s. i know of two other 93s locally that ran just as strong. one of which ran 8.52 (around 13.3s)with only tires and filter removed. also, an a4 car. ive owned a 94 and a 95 niether ran better than low 14s stock.

RODS
350 - The original LT1 came with regular forged 350 rods, that were shot peened for localized hardness under the head of the bolt and nut. Powdered metal rods were phased in for the Corvette around 1994 and used in all of the LT1 engines by 1995. GM made the change because the powdered metal rods were cheaper to make and were much stronger than the GM high performance "pink" rods. In fact, they are supposed to be good for up to 450 hp. They are machined at the parting line so they can be reconditioned.

LT1 camaro's had powdered rods from 95-97

http://www.lt1.org/lt1tech.html ......all kinds of LT1 info

If you have a 93 chances MIGHT be you dont have PM rods.

CAMS
1992-’95 350 WITH ALUMINUM HEADS - The 1992 Corvette had a steel roller cam with a shallow hole in the snout that measured .450" in the front and tapered down to .240" at the bottom. It had a short dowel (.320") that was used to locate the timing gear and a hole with 16 splines in the center of the gear for the stub shaft that drove the early distributor. The 1993-‘94 H.O. cam had a few subtle changes, but all of the early H.O. cams are the same for all intents and purposes. They can be identified by the number "241" stamped on the barrel in front of the first lobe.

1995-’97 350 WITH ALUMINUM HEADS - In 1995, the aluminum-headed motors got the late, pin-drive distributor, so there’s a second version of the H.O. cam with the big pilot hole (.500" x 1.0625" ) and the long (.685" ) dowel pin. Look for a cam with the long pin and either "242" or "705" stamped on the barrel in front of the first lobe.

Well it would be 93-VERY early 95 cars that would have them and i'm sure they are almost or just as strong as stock. My car was one of the LATE 95's and the builder that assembled my short block asked why i didnt reuse stock rods. I just happened to score a set of eagle rods so.....why not. They are always there in the garage if something happens.
