Default Going Racing Need tips

Im going racing at the drag strip in a couple days, mainly because some dumbass kids from my school think their fords are faster than my lt1. So im going to show them up! One has a lincoln mark 8 , another has a ~83 stang 5.0 which said the lincoln outran him. And the other is a 95 stang 347. im kinda worryed about the 347. He gave me a ride in it one day and it doesnt feel like it pulls nearly as hard as my car, but hooks up way better.

So give me some tips so i can post good times. As of now im fillin up with 105 octane racing gas. Taking out my seats, and radio. And deleting my ac is in the back of my head. Any other tips? I dont have any money for mods now, and my car is stock sept a cat delete, and a MSD cap/rotor.

weight reduction is always a good thing if you cant spend cash for mods. have you even been to the track before?

if you are running street tires dont go in the water box I always get better 60 foot times when i do that. and getting a better light will also help if you are 1-3 tenths slower than the other car

first off thanks for not being dumb and racing on the streets. It's real heads up to take it to the track.

As for racing, get them on the light. Try to red light, as soon as that last light turns yellow it's too late. After that, make sure not to spin really hard off the line. maybe a 1500 to 2000 RPM dump. If the tires do break loose stay in it and pray for them to hook up.

Good luck and let us know how you did.

With an M6, you just need to get a good launch with very little tire spin. Unfortunately, that takes practice, which is best done at the strip. Best of luck.

Pump your front tires to max. Take out some air pressure in the back, don't know which PSI it should be so someone else can tell you. And like mentioned, do NOT use 105 race gas in your car. It will do absolutely nothing, stick with 91. All you can do at this point is weight reduction and getting your launch down. Don't forget about the spare tire and jack if not already taken out.

Descreen your MAF for free.... Take a sawzall and open up the side of your intake box so it's not sucking thru a tiny hole.... DO NOT AIR YOUR STREET TIRES DOWN!!!! It causes them to hook up worse..... I'd say don't go lower than 28psi in street tires.... do a small little clean and burn to clean em off and that's it. no smoke required. hot street tires get greasy and won't hook up.... Also try and stage first..... get ready, calm down and get your launch RPM where you need to be as soon as he prestages..... once he's fully staged he'll only have a second to do what you've been setting up for about 15 seconds if you staged first.... chances are he won't be ready and you'll rip his *** at the tree.....

i take my rear tire pressure down to about 25 psi. hooks great for 7 inch cheapo street tires. i dont spin at all if i launch from idle, but it will spin a little if i power brake it. and your reaction time has nothing to do with your et, however, if you are racing heads up, you can still win by leaving sooner, cus in the end its who crosses the finish line first, not the quickest ET. good luck

As this is your first trip to the drag strip I would suggest that you concentrate more on your driving and worry less about the car. Leave it alone and drive it like you would any other time. Before you pull into the staging lanes for the first time watch some runs. The more you learn before you make your first pass the less mistakes you will make. Make sure that you have fun.

Good Luck,

Daren

Some good advise so far here, race gas as mentioned is a waste. The tree means a lot as does the 60 ft. If you spin the first time(you will) learn to roll out and then hammer it. If you could borrow drag radials you'd be OK.

A 347 stang is a quick car but so is yours! U can run 13s in that car just relax when ur up. I would only fill your tank 1/8 way up if poss for ur wieght I think gas is like 7 pounds per gal. or something like that. These other guys hit the nail on the head as far as anything goes. U will be fine!!!

You could also go up in smoke, because you have taken so much weight off of the back of a car without suspension mods. Weight over the back tires is not always a bad thing.

Ok so no race gas, and strip as much weight as possible, let some air out of the tires, and get a badass start.

I was guna descreen my maf screen the other day, and i got down to it, and there wasnt one. I guess someone beat me to it.

Im working on borrowing a pair of street radials, and gettin a couple of practice runs in at the track a couple days before.

My spair tire, and jack is already gone, im guna take out the back seats, and the passanger seat. The radio, and all the speakers.

Any thing else?

i'm gonna reinforce the importance of the tree. don't think about it too hard, but as soon as the last yellow light comes on you wanna leave. maybe even a little sooner since you have an m6. the light can make a HUGE difference. example, i once ran my buddy.... my time was 14.5 and his was 13.8 but i beat him. reason: my R/T: 0.093; his R/T: 1.77. i still pick on him about it. lol. oh yea, it would probably help to make sure you let your motor cool down as much as possible before the races. be sure to pop that hood inbetween passes and try to wait 15-30min before the next one. i used to put a bag of ice on top of the intake manifold. but some people will say not to do that because loose water will slick up the track. but i never had problems. good luck!
