Default Airlidless!?!?!?

What are guys running that have done away with their airlids? I've seen a couple of guys a long time ago on here that had fabbed up piping. There has got to be a point where the airlid is a restriction.

A friend of mine is running a 383 LT4 with a 300 shot of nitrous and an LS1 airlid conversion. The guy running the dyno swears up and down the lid is a major restriction and he needs to come up with something different. So he removed the lid on the dyno and the car picked up quit a bit hp but even more tq.

Any help with ideas, or links would be appreciated

You can run an intake like the K&N FIPK or the Volant CAI, but there have been dyno comparisons done between them and aftermarket lids and they dont really provide any more power.

possibly because at the power levels the tests were done at, the lid was not a restriction.

just a thought.

My H/C car picked up nothing on the dyno with the filter removed and lid open.

I would suggest doing a search. There have been several people to debate whether a lid or CAI is better, as well as many people trying to trade their FIPKs for aftermarket lids. If the lid was such a restriction I think that more people on here would use the FIPK or volant.

search the lt1 forums again. we've got people over there who switch from regular cold air kits to lids and picked up 10-15 whp.

This is the FIPK for an ls1. I picked it up for a little less than $100 shipped on ebay. I doubt there is any difference in performance between a lid and this. IMO I think it looks better, and I got a pretty good deal.

Right. and he already has an LS1 setup on his and it still seems to be starving for air and I am/was wondering where are guys going after they have exhausted the lid.

For me, and my motor, I have a feeling if my friend is starving his motor with his LT1 383 combo w/300 shot, I may very well be in the same boat with my new LS1 motor combination.

Thanks for the input guys!

fwiw the 300 shot has nothing to do w/ it, and there are plenty of 400-500 rwhp h/c cars that still run lids as far as i know.

But 500 RWHP is not alot in the stroker world. I will be wellll beyond that and the LT4 383 car I spoke of is in the 600's without the 300 shot.

Just curious as to whats out there that helps make more power than a lid supports, thats all. And the answer may be that there is nothing at this time.

Thanks guys!
