Default ready to build

well i started my car to get ready for summer and now i have a bad rod or wrist pin . so now im looking to build a stroker. what is the best afordable kit. and can i modifiy the stock heads for a stroker? 396 kit i would asume not but wondering if 383 it would be posible. and what kind of ponies am i looking at

You can do a 383 or a 396 and you can use the GM heads on either but they need to be ported.

If you think you are going to build a larger cube bottomend and slap stock heads on it and get performance you are in for a very expensive lesson.

You throw even mildly ported heads on a 383 with a moderate aftermarket cam and what you will get is WEAK. One reputable vendor sells LT1 crate motors like this documented to only put down about 320-330rwhp. Personally I would call any heads and cam only without shortblock work that put down that little a failure, a stroker that only makes that is really sad. Aint the vendors fault though that his customers lack a basic understanding of how to make power, he just sell them what they want.

so how much porting am I looking at .cause i was thinking around 185cc to 195cc.with 3 angle valve job.also will the stock intake be able to be ported to match the heads or do i have to purchase an lt4 one?just researching my options but if i could get 425 to 450 hp im happy.so any input is appreciated thanks guys.
