Default How big should i go..?!?

Well guy's coming later on to possibly pick up my 396 short block.. So after that take's place ,i'll put my new dart block on order.. and then have to decide on a displacement.. So.. What are your thoughts'? some know i already have a set of all pro 245rr's they're in the upper 300 cfm range.. on a 4.030 bore.. stepping upto a 4.125 bore along w/ a bigger valve.. so should do well.. should i just bite the bullet and go for the magic 427ci? Looking for some idea's... pro's/con's etc...

well... i never like to bore a block for just more cudes. The power you get will be small. i think it is better to have thick cylinder walls for strength , like in a force induction motor, and why use up the block that fast. If you do have an internal issue in the future is nice to be able to bore it more cause you have to , instead of buying a new block.

well the the block can safely be taken out to 4.185 So.. that's .060 over....i'm not necessarily boring out the block for the more cube's.. just trying to get the most out of these damned heads.. w/ the larger bore...

If it were me I'd bore it to a 427, but Morewhitemeat makes a good point too. Are you planning on spraying this setup if you were to use a 427?

primarily n/a.. but i don't think a 4.125 bore will have too much trouble handling.. a measly 250 shot... to acheive 427 i'd just need a 4.000 stroke rather than a 3.875.. shouldn't be too bad..

Think that needed to be highlighted.

I know of a b-body with a Donovan aluminum 434 completely converted to everyting LT1 down to the opti and mechanical waterpump. You going to try to make it reverse flow or are you keeping the block "gen 1"?

The LT1 stuff is not the step back most make it out to be. The opti is far better than the internet stupid give it credit for and the waterpump moves a hell of a lot of water without cavitating and does so with a lower HP-per-gallon usage than the gen 1 OEM stuff that came before it.

The Impala I mentioned runs mid 9s at 146mph at 4400lbs on just 15psi and a 75 shot(chemical intercooling). Stock opti with owner done rotor mods, stock pcm, Rossler 4L60E, stock waterpump, 8.5" 10 bolt. Cars like this are why I think it is such a joke when every kid with a 12 second Camaro thinks he has to replace all those things because they are not good enough. I do realize the 7.5" axle is made of glass but the rest of the usually hated stuff is pretty good.

That Impala will be at the Pump Gas Drags, too porky to take the top title but will certainly cause some head scratching, he has hinted he will be besting his current 9.6 record which was a soft 1.5 60ft.

I would go for the 434. With sonic checking they are taking those blocks to 4.2+

Yea, that is my opinion on that one also. I like my Cylinder walls. Not much gain with just a .030 over in most situations anyways, just basically bragging rights.
The Crank stroke is where you get the results..that holds true in other situations as well..

i surely wouldn't mind be able to keep all the current stuff i have for the ltx and transfer it over to my new block.. but the crap that's req'd to make that work probably isn't financially feaseable.. if you know what i mean.. but if you can get me a round about figure and who can do this work.. i might consider it.... i'm open to option's at this point cause nothing is set in stone...
