To fix the intake manifold oil leak -- it shouldn't cost you more than $30. It is mostly time consuming than anything else. There is another thread that has a link to two very good write-ups on fixing the leak.

At minimum you'll need new intake gaskets, rags, Copper RTV, brake parts cleaner, and patience.

Id get some degreaser and a TB gasket and go ahead and give the intake and TB a good thorough cleaning before putting them back on.

How much are the intake gaskets? The head gaskets are $32.99/each.

Intake set is in that ballpark price as well...and should come with throtlle body gasket - so you can do the cleaning that officer suggest.

Ok. I'm looking at this '97 Z28 that is in good condition with 101K miles on it that has a blown head gasket, an intake manifold oil leak, non-cold blowing AC, and will need brakes and tires soon. What's a reasonable price for it?

Well, this guy is asking $3995 right now. It's in good condition besides the problems, but I think it might be a little steep.

Wow - you did really good JD. I thought I did well on mine...$1450 with bad crank (spun bearings)...I did drive it on to the trailer though - so I knew everything worked - just made the most gawed-awfull knocking you've ever heard.

that is steep.i sold my 96 formula with 70k for $2400. it had a gm crate motor with 30k on it ,brand new tires and clutch, the door needed some minor work and it had a bent 3-4 shift fork but the car was in pretty fair cond.offer him $3000 if you want to pay that much if he dont take it walk away.your taaking a chance that the heads are not cracked and no antifreeze went into the crankcase.

Hm. You're right. There's another '95 Z28 that I'm looking. It's in good condition and everything. It has 82K miles. $5000.

Shackle, how ya' doing?
The price is a little high, by at least 25-45%.
The head gasket fix is a bit of work, since it requires removing the exhaust manifold. But the intake manifold leak is easy to fix. The gaskets go on the left and right side, and the RTV is used for the rear. This is where the leak actually occurs, and happens to 99.99% of all LT1s. The cost of this (if you do the work) is minimal, perhaps 100 total.
You will have to spend 600-800 on the brakes and tires, depending on what tires you select and how much it takes to fix the brakes (does it need rotors, does it need calipers?).
Down where you live, the A/C would be my biggest worry. Is it just a slow leak that finally got too bad, or does some major component need to be replaced. At least count on replacing the dryer, which is what takes the moisture out of the lines.
So you are looking at no less that 1000, and probably closer to 1500-1700, in repairs to bring it up to snuff. Just my opinion and my estimates.
Best of luck.

I'd try to bargain with this owner and forgo all the work to the other car. Much better overall.
