Default 383

Looking at buying a forged Eagle 383 with 4 bolt mains.

Eagle crank and H beams
SRP forged pistons with near stock compression
Comp R lifters
Double roller timing chain
Canton oil pan
High volume oil pump
electric water pump
Im sure its also ARP studed but I am waiting to find out
Clevite or whatever bearings
Only has one season on the motor with a few passes and some street miles. Only spun up to 6800 RPM only hit with a 175 shot.

He told me $3600 and he will bring it to my house (he lives about 3 hours away).

On a LT1 intake with a 58MM TB, LE2 heads/CC 306 threw a 3400 stall, TH-400 and a 9 inch on a 10.5 tire it went
11.3-11.4 all day long. On a 175 shot it went 10.0@132 with a 1.41 60 foot and a 175 shot.

Told me with a good tune it will handle a 300 shot easy and the cam is faily mild for what the motor can handle.

Plan is to have a set of heads Race ported for it by a local pro stock builder/porter who does all the fast cars around here. Have him port a Vic Jr or Vic intake, Accufab or wilson manifolds 4 BBl TB, N20 Daves plate converson with a progressive, FAST computer,

Into a Neil chance stall, TH-400 with a brake (local buddy has one), to a full spool 9 inch with 4.10's and a 28 inch tall tire.

Have a local well respected race engine builder spec me out a cam for it.

SHOULD be able to get it in the 9's on the motor pretty easy or at least 10.0's on the motor.

I dont see that setup doing a 300 hit very well. Especialy on a Hyd Roller setup and the material most SRP's are made out of.

I would also reconsider your TB choice, im a fan of an 'elbow' style setup because the elbow acts as a runner for the intake and creates a bit of torque.

Good Luck though man

Tony.

I've sprayed a 250 shot on my stock bottom end several times for fun. With the right timing and the right fuel and rods that can hold you can spray safely.

Im not dead set on things yet with the intake/TB. Tottaly spaced the lifters beings hydraulic. I won't mess with buying those since it will be a sollid roller.

Whats the difference in the 383 and 396? Just the bore?
If so I might swap the pistons out.

Are any of the SRP forged flat top pistons good?

The difference between the 383 and the 396 is the stroke (crank). Keep in mind there are a couple ways to build a 383 but with the LT1 you really don't have alot of choices.

The SRP's have a higher silicon content and it makes them a bit more brittle and less resistent to detonation. A no non-sense quality build with nitrous or any type of forced induction should stay away from them in my opinion.

Well the motor does not have a lot of miles on it since it was built so I may have the block honed again and throw in some JE's or something.

Bobby speaks the truth.

SRPs arent a beefy piston either, meaning the ringlands arent lower on the piston itself. Lower ring give the piston added strenght when a power adder is used.

Ross/Weisco/Diamond

And some Hellfire rings.

You then can decide how you want to set your rings up.
