Default oil pressure

when my car has been run for a while my oil pressure really dosent go past 40 even at redline and when im idiling its right above the red marks .....is this bad or is it normal

Good question. Mine runs at 40 psi and idles at 20 psi. Don't remember what it used to do when it was new. Seems low, though.

i think they all do this...i guess i will find out when my new motor is crunk for the first time this weekend

mine used to be like that, now its at 70 when cold and rarely goes below 30 even at idle warm. its been like that since i change the oil, still dont know why

From the factory most of them only put out 5 psi at idle. It is supposed to be safe still but it always bothered me looking at the gauge. The rule of thumb is that you only need 10 psi per 1000 rpm.

same here....dips into the red when im stopped and its warm but never goes over 40...i like to think that flow is better than pressure lol....40psi at 5800 and 4-5psi at idle is hopefully good enough.

once warmed up mine idles around 30 psi and tops at around 60 psi. I read somewere though that the oil pressure at idle shouldn't drop into the 20's definatly not below 20's then u have problems and shouldn't be driving the thing. I would think you oil pressure should definatly build up higher than 40 psi. When my engine is cold it idles around 40-45psi and then drops down to 30's when it warms up.

mines 40 on idle and cruising arond its 60-70 (2-3k cuz stall) i recently put lucas in raised it like 5

mine new is 60-70 idle cold, 30 idle warm and 40-50 cruising with a new melling m155
