Question OBD I question

Do codes get stored in an OBD I computer or does the SES light have to be lit for a code to show up? Sometimes the SES light comes on in my '95 Z after driving about 1/2 hr but usually goes off after a few minutes. It is never on when I start the car or when I'm actually planning on getting the car scanned.

The codes are stored till they are cleared by a scan tool.

Didn't think advance/auto zone can read codes on a '95 - they're OBDI with an OBDII DLC port?

Yeah, pretty much any free auto parts scan place will not be able to read the 95 because of the newer port/older computer oddity.

To read it you just need a cable (akmcables.com, moates.net, etc) and some free software.

Do you know if any of the free software works on a Mac laptop?

if they have a GOOD scanner they can...My actron scanner will read OBDI and OBDII and came with cables for GM, Ford, Chrysler and even a few forein cars (those cables are still in the wrappers!). It came with an OBDI cable and OBDII cable for GM - it will read ANYHING as far as I can tell. It certainly reads my '95 with OBDI computer and OBDII connector.

Not natively, but you can use parrellels/boot camp or virtual pc for pre-intel ones. I've used it with virtual pc on a powerbook g4 and never had a problem.
