Default No muffler?

anyone got sound clips/vids of a stock LT1 without a muffler? (Stock manifolds/cats.) I cant seem to find any. Would there be any power gains from doing that?

I've got some clips of mine somewhere. At the track for a while I ran open headers, if that's the sound you're looking for.

i had a cutout on my y after the cat (just before the turn up to go over the axle) and it was pretty loud, but i lost torque cause there wasnt as much backpressure

also it make the car vibrate a lot more cause of the resonance on the ground...

My buddy took the muffler of his '94 Z and he said i was a little bit slower. It sounded ok I didnt think it sounded that great when he really got on it but I guess it sounds decent normal driving.

I used to run around with my cutout open for long periods of time. It is stupid loud that way, I'm sure with no muffler it would be the same case.

I did that for a few days. It was cool but I didnt always like to drive around that loud. So I just put a cutout on I pipe, same sound just switchable from inside the car. I say do it if you want to be REDICULOUSLY loud.

I think at WOT open cutout sounds great! I just couldn't enjoy things, like rock music, or holding a conversation without having to half yell.

Here's my car with the open cutout, I have BBK shorties on the car instead of manifolds though. It is really loud, in the inside shot part of the vid, my windows are up!

My car, open cutout, up to around 110mph.

i've cut my muffler off and it made it sound decent but i only lost .10 in the 1/4.. but mine was really loud after my build of the motor and running open long tubes lol.. with no muffler they seem to pop alot more and it really gets annoying...

With a relatively stock car you're not going to see any gains taking the muffler off. You'll more than likely lose a little bit. Basically its going to be loud and obnoxious -- if thats what you're going for then knock yourself out.

My personal preference, I'd rather hear a car that sounds clean and tight than just loud and obnoxious. Any redneck can take a sawzall to his muffler -- and honestly that's basically what it'll sound like. The hair on the back of your head may already be growing longer...

Get a cutout -- that way you can only be obnoxious half the time. You still won't pick up any power, but long trips will be bearable. You really won't see any gains until you've got heads/cam or something similar. And even then the gains are minimal.
