Default Rocker arms adjustment question.

What could happen if I made a mistake by starting with the wrong cylinder adjusting the rocker arms following the TDC arrow? I mean if I should start with #1 and instead I started with #6 thinking it's all good. Could this cause the engine not to start when trying to start it after this procedure and back fire like an orange county chopper? or it should start even if I started installing the rockers following the TDC by starting with the wrong cylinder?

I bought a 93 LT1 and I was told it ran great, before I droped it in my Z28 I just installed a 1.6 rockers replacing the stock ones and the engine didn't wanna start and back fire like ****.
I'm just concerened if the engine IS ok and I just did something wrong installing the rockers. What do you guys think?

That means that they are out of adjustment. Do you know how to get it to #1 TDC?

Well, I went following the arrow at the 12 oc. and started with #1 cylinder but I din't know if I should have started with #6 and the engine didn't start, not sure if this is the problem or something else is wrong with it. If I did it wrong, could it cuase it NOT to start like that and back fire?
How do you know if to start with #1 or #6?
Thanks so much man.

If you started on the wrong cylinder some of them should have gone loose as you tuned the motor over to adjust others and rocker nuts would be clearly set at very differnt heights. I started doing this midnight one night and quickly decided it was going to be better to get some sleep and come back to the project in the morning, I am usually up at 4:30am so midnight was way past my bedtime.

My question is if this thing could cause the engine NOT to start?

Probably, never saw anyone let it get past noticing rockers loosen up.
How are you adjusting them? Specifically what do you consider zero lash?? I have seen a lot of guys spin the pushrod to find zero and by the time you feel resistance on the well oiled pushrod spinnng in the well oiled cups you are well past zero lash.

When one valve is completly open (pushrod all the way up) then its mate is ready to be adjusted. If using poly locks, get it where its a little loose tighten the poly lock then tighten the main nut till its where you want it. If you do this they will never back loose.

Blows all the compression out if the valve hangs open.
