Default Stock '93 LT1 times?

I'm not sure if this is the right forum for this... If not let me know and I'll delete it and move it to the right one...

Anyway, I'm getting ready to buy a '93 Z28 this weekend for my DD and I'm just wondering what kinds of times those cars run? I didn't think they changed much of anything except some small things, but on the site I'm looking at it says 14.4 for a stock '93 Z28, and it says a '96 Z28 is 14.1, SS is 13.8. From what I heard I was thinking all the Z28 LT1's ran a low 14. The thing that makes the 14.4 kinda hard to believe is that it says the '90 Iroc-Z ran a 14.4. The car is in pretty good shape mechanically. No problems that he knows of. Transmission was rebuilt about 10k ago so that should be good. Bad tires that need replacing.

So whats the story on what the LT1s, including that 93, run?

14.7@93, yeah I know it sucks. but some LT's, stall, and slicks net me a 13.03@103. dont worry about it too much cuz I never see a "stock" LT1 nowadays, good luck!!!

I ran 9.1@78, 2.25 60ft when mine was all stock, probably would have been a low 14 sec high 13 sec car stock on a good day

When I got my 93 with just deleted cat(straight pipe), flowmaster muffler(hardly worth 3hp), and 245 khumo street tires I ran a 13.9. This is in low/no altitude florida though on a fairly chilly track day.

Its around ~14.0 for most good running stock lt1s depending on altitude and weather.

Ok, sounds good. How do these cars hold up at higher mileage? The one I'm getting has about 135k miles. Just had a rebuilt tranny about 10k miles ago though, but how well does stuff hold up? And do they run consistent times into the higher mileage, or does that start dropping too?

Thanks for you help

there was a post a while back on a 200k mile + LT1 that spun a bearing, try a search. But for the most part the LT1 is a pretty stout motor granted you maintain it correctly.

my daily driver 96 lt1 has 154K miles on it. 6sp has not been rebuilt and still shifts fine. engine is still fine, maintains good oil pressure. put 76K miles on it in 2 years. has been rock solid, the only issue i had is when i blew a fan fuse and the car overheated and i had to replace the radiator because it started leakin.

Anyone know why this car might be doing the opposite, not being able to get up to temp? He said thats the only mechanical thing he knows of.

probably just a stuck open thermostat, my car ran a 13.7@102 stock. only thing to watch for on any LT1 is water pump leaking, if the opti wasnt replaced plan to. thats the biggest things to go wrong on the car.

try a different temp. sending unit. its on the head.
opti is the distributor, located on the front of the engine under the waterpump.
i tore down my 140k mile heads/cam LT1 due to worn rings. (not bad, but too bad to be in my race car)
main/rod bearings looked great with zero copper showing, but the cam bearings had some wear.

ive seen that sight, i also saw a 93 comparison between the cobra and the camaro where the camaro got a 5.3 0-60, and a 14.0 1/4 mile (m6). Mine went 14.0 stock. 93 Z28 a4
