3:42 blues
plugs are fine... interstate? is that some type of cop question?
well on the way in i did some experimenting...
here is what i got...
-downshifts into third fine.
-it will downshift into second @ 65 mph which puts me at 5000 rpm...
-i held my transmission in second to see how far second can go. it goes 80 mph at 6000 rpm before i start to hit the limiter...
-i would love to get it to down shift into second @ 73-75 mph which would put me @ ~5500 (this may be too high cause it's going to upshift @ ~5700)
i don't know... you tell me what i should do...
i'm leaning toward 3:23's that should let me downshift @ 70-75...

if i start from a stop, it just flies thru 70-90(i'm assuming it's because of momentum) but if i punch it from a 70 roll its a pig til 90-95...
i'm wondering if 3:23's would cure this... (correct me if wrong. but will 3:23's help me pull harder at higher speeds)
i am shifting at 5700-5800, with the lt4 springs and 1.6rr's would i be safe bumping up my shift points to maybe 6000 (not sure if that would solve anything)...

WTF! If it's shifting down to third just fine, you should be pulling strong from 70 to 100mph. Shifting down to second for a few hundred rpm isn't worth it. You should have plenty of torque at the rpm you're running in third at 70. Oh, and the feeling that it pulls better if you start from a stop is just that, a feeling; momentum plays no role in this situation. Time it sometime, if it actually runs 70 - 90 faster, then something is wrong with your car. Also, raising your shift point with the stock cam is nearly pointless.
ok, i hit the road for some 70-90 pulls...
i did six pulls and timed them with a stopwatch...
my best was 4.48 seconds and my worst was 4.72..
on average it is ~4.60 seconds... (is this terrible?) i think so...
it would be awesome if someone with 3:42's and similar mods could get me some times...
i don't know what could cause this???

now i'm wondering if it could be my injectors or my .05 gapped ngk tr55's...
maybe its a pig every where and it is just more noticable at 70-90...
i know that i have compared my 1/4 mile times with others i will beat them to the 1/8th, but thier last 1/8th of the 1/4 mile time is faster.
real example i am no. 6, similar set up both a4's with 3:42's(i think)...

yeah but look at the first 1/8th mile... you can't tell me that .157 second better 60' is going to put me .391 seconds faster then him in the 1/8th...
then my car is only .03 seconds slower in the second 1/8th mile...
doesn't jive to me...

with the higher gear, lower numerically, you are just going to turn better mph. not necessarily ET.
don't worry about how it pulls from 70-90, you have a highway gear, and thats the simple fact of it. I run a 3.42 also, bcuz i still highway drive the car, and its soooo much fun to cut a 2.0 60' and then come around another car at 120mph....they never knew what hit them, lol.
its going to be a little sluggish from a 70 punch, bcuz in OD at that speed, you are not your powerband.
and why's it matter, who u racing from 70 rolls anyways????
run someone from a 30 punch with it in 1st, you will roll up some people, and still have a **** load of gear outta those 3.42s to hold them off on the big end!
as far as the time comparison, did u factor in elevation?? maybe he spun coming off the line, which would be represented in the higher MPH for a 13.80. When I run 103mph, I am turning 13.40s - 13.50s, with a 2.0 60', at 3200 ft of elavation. Your ET/MPH is the same as mine, you just 60' alot better, which takes away mph and adds ET. If I could get my car to 60' like yours, i could pull off some 13.20s at 105 or so. Same for you, if you 60'd less, you would run less ET, more MPH. something like a 13.60 @ 104-5. Car is making good power at the top of the track instead of the line.
