M6 here, LT's & X-pipe, tiny cam, bigger valves, 52mm TB,... I feel like the car is sluggish between 60 an 90 when I'm already cruising and just try to take off. From a stand-still though, it feels pretty consistant/good all the way till 130'ish.

I have 3.42s out back with a M6, and it flies up to a hundred, what are you shifting at?

yes, i don't know what comes with a 3:42... i purchased a complete (stock) rearend from a friend... i think it came from a ta with an m6...

if i start from a stop, it just flies thru 70-90(i'm assuming it's because of momentum) but if i punch it from a 70 roll its a pig til 90-95...

i'm wondering if 3:23's would cure this... (correct me if wrong. but will 3:23's help me pull harder at higher speeds)

i am shifting at 5700-5800, with the lt4 springs and 1.6rr's would i be safe bumping up my shift points to maybe 6000 (not sure if that would solve anything)...

the 3.23s would make your acceleration even more sluggish.

Ok so you have a slushbox(A4) in your car, do you manually downshift before you hit it? Because if not it takes time for the car to downshift into the powerband.

You might need a transmission tune.

Or its too high to kick down to third from 4th (OD). If you have it in Drive and it still is a pooch, then somethings not right. My 3.23's do fine in mine! I'd really like to have the 3.42s out of a 98+ rear end with the gear-posi. Mmmm yum.

Right now, mine kicks some major bu**, however I have a turbo now.
Prior to the turbo, the shift kit, and the stall (all happened somewhat together), I had the 3.42 with very minor bolt-ons. It would downshift to 3rd and pass everything on the road (no vettes present, of course).
Sounds like your car has issues, but I would strongly disagree that it is the gear. Is the car kicking down to third gear? It should happen immediately. Is the torque converter unlocking? IMO, it sounds like neither event is happening.
Best of luck.

My A4 96 hualed *** with the stock 3.23s in it. My friend owned my A4 94 b4 me and he put the 3.42s in it. Im not sold on them. Both the 1996 and th 1994 were idendicle right doen to the blue paint! The only difference was the 94 has the power drivers seat.

When they were stock they had 3.23s in them and they were dead nuts even in a drag race, we did it all the time. When the head gaskit went in the 94 he port matched the heads & decked them, installed a LT4 knock module, put on a flowmaster and put in the 3.42s. On the 96, I put on an slp cold air kit and an slp shift module. The 94 ran about the same as before but felt weaker top end and strong bottom end. The 96 ran faster and pulled hard throughout the RPM range. I still don't get why. The 94 got a 2400rpm stall TC with a tranny rebuild, and still ran the same numbers about 14.0-14.1. The 96 ran 13.8-13.9 all day long. Maybe someone might have an idea about this one here. I think I might put the 3.23s back into the 94. Best time with my 96- 13.8 at 101mph had a 2.0s 60' time too! Best time with my 94- 14.0 at 98 and something greater than a 2.0s 60'.

Another friend of mine has lots of mods to his 96 t-top A4 Z28 and he still couldn't beat my 96s numbers either. He has a functional ram air ss hood, bigger injectors, 2800 stall TC with 3.73 gears, Long tube headers, off-road y, a loud mouth exhaust

mines got simular mods and 3:42's, my top end runs are monsters, its very fast. No one asked if the speedo was redone with a program I'll assume it was. Whats the plugs look like? It does down shift right>? Stick with a gear ratio that works for you. Do you run interstate alot?
