Default LS1 brake conversion question

I can see the discussions on the LS1 brake conversion but need to ask a few questions not found.

I bought the LS1 calipers, brackets and lines from fparts. Before ordering I asked if I could use the LT1 spindles and what else I would need. The answer was "yes" for the spindles and I would only need LS1 rotors.

It really looks from a few other posts that the "upright" or steering knuckles are required which contain the LS1 spindles.

Can anyone tell me why the LS1 caliper brackets will not work with the LT1 upright? Thanks.

I'm not sure of the reason why, but I have always been told that only LS1 spindles will work. I think the LT1 spindles require too much modification so it is a good idea to just pay for the LS1 spindles. Thats just what I've been told anyway.

The caliper mounting holes on the LS1 steering knuckles are different from those on the LT1 knuckles.

I think you need LS1 knuckles for the conversion.

Yes I have the conversion done, you need LS1 spindles. Price check the local junkyards, and get them there. And MAKE SURE you compare the new spindles with your old ones, MANY people have gotten bent ones from junkyards. If you get bent ones, depending on how bad, your allignment will be so far out of spec that you run out of room for adjustment. Put them side by side, because you don't want to be changing out spindles after the fact and running back to the junkyard again and again.

This is a bit of a let down. I really thought Fparts would know. They didn't specify whether the LT1 upright would need reworked but it was clear from what was said that they wouldn't have to be changed out. Obviously if they were correct I wouldn't lose my alignment but now it looks like more parts and labor. I'll try to pull a wheel and caliper off this weekend to have a good look as to why it's not going to work.

i just di this swap... the caliper bolts won't line up to the knuckle... and if they did the rotor would not fit because the holes on the ls1 spindles are moved out further to make up for the larger rotors and calipers... just get the ls1 spindles...

Thanks for the good info everyone; I should have guessed this would be the case as I've never read where anyone just swapped calipers and rotors. I'm hoping to come up with the parts I need from a resident.
