Default Swapping Powerhouses

Hey everyone I have a very long and detailed question to ask and any feedback that I can be given is really going to help me out in the long run. Ok well I have a 1996 camaro v6 that I am planning on ripping out and replacing with an lt1. I no that the transmission will have to be taken out and changed and I was wondering if a turbo 400 would bolt up to the lt1 motor or should i just stick with the 4l60e. I was also wondering what has to be done to the car to allow the lt1 motor to be put in such as motor mounts larger radiator fan anything it would be really helpful. I was also wondering if the rest of the car is basically the same because i was pretty sure the suspension on the car is the same. But the rear end I was not so sure about I no it is not posi so that is obviously a diffrence but If i throw a locker in it would that be basically the same as the v8 rearends? I just would like to hear some input on what you guys think and what I should do because I just ordered the l1t so now im just trying to figure out what I got to do to make this bad boy get up and running. Thank you for your time and hopefully there is a way that you all will be able to help me out~ Petrou

Seeing as you have to do such an extensive transplant of parts and wiring. I would do 2 things.

1) Now, I hate to say this, since I love my LT1 so much, but I'd say go with an LS1. Since, as I said, you're going to do a bunch of stuff ANYWAYS.

2) Get a t-boned LS1 FBody. You'll get all the major components you need. A motor, a tranny, a rear end (not sure if you need to ditch the V6 one), the wiring, the computer, the springs (you'll need them upfront, and they are diff in back anyhow), sway bars and the better gauge cluster. Thats just naming what comes to mind right away.

IF You don't want to do the LS1 route, I still say follow #2, but replace it with an LT1 FBody for all the same reasons.

Hope that helps, GL.
