I thought you would go with a Forged Setup..
In that case the 370 would be cheaper. With my Intake/Heads/Cam setup I am using, a 402 would suit it better. That, and I believe in go big or go home..
i would go with a 370 setup with a stock crank, forged rods and forged pistons. i believe the crank is the same nodular iron one the ls1s have which is plenty strong for me.

cant wait to see this thing done.

I have that stock Crank already in my back room, I could go that route, but my top-end of the Engine would literally out-run the shortblock, it is that good. I want a 402 cause the top-end will perform with that perfectly, it will be really stout.
That, and there is something about saying I have over 400 cubic inches under the Hood..with a stock GM Head/Intake setup that outflows AFR's..

im very interested in how this will turn out and how it will compare cost wise to doing a 355 lt1 as ill be doing one or the other later this year i think. the stock bottom end wont like a cam and a 150 shot for very long.

She does it in the 1000ft..it's about high 14's in the 1/4.

I am keeping track of everything I have spent money on so far, and the total cost will come at the end after everything. I just scored a LS1 4L60E Tranny for $165, so I am catching deals also..

merv with the power your going to be putting out, i would look in getting that trans built. i just toasted mine after 1200 miles with the new set up and only putting down 381 hp compared to what your going to be expecting. it might last for awhile, but its def. a ticking time bomb. only if u made a post or something about a tranny, i had an ls1 trans i would have given it to you for just shipping.

Nice. Sounds like a battle plan.

I'm searching for a semi clean 3rd gen, then a LQ9......... Going to look at a 3rd gen tommarow.

****, don't even show them whats under the hood, keep them guessing.

I have a builder for the Trans, he built the one I have in the LT1 now, I toasted the factory one with the Engine I built..
He rates them to about 700hp with the setup I have, and how light the car is. That is why I am not going with a Stall that is too terribly big, so it's a little easier on everything. I still am getting a lockup one, that way I can feel that power pulling through the powerband.

Actually.. yes it does. You have to convert the mounts with plates that are made to drop the LSX into an Engine Bay that uses Gen I/II 350 Motor Mounts. Tranny is the same. I already got everything, and it's cheap, cost $40, and came with the Hardware.
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...m=160102507567

What made my decision to do this was I had the Harness already built, I built that myself. It is a fully-functioning Harness, there is a guy here that has it in a 1994 Z28 with a LS1, and it runs no problem. I figured that to be the hardest part, with all the Wire diagrams and stuff. A monkey can build an Engine, well some people that are comparable to a monkey with the knowledge they have on it(friend of mine put his pistons in upside down in his Engine the other day..), Engines are easy. Then I started looking into it, and was pretty much like why drop an LS1 in when I can build up a bad-*** 6.6l 402ci stroker using the best Heads/Intake on the market right now while it's cheap. I got $225 invested into the whole LS2 Fuel Injection System(Rails, Connectors, Injectors), and that is a bad *** setup, 34lb factory. The Heads out-flow 90% of the aftermarket Heads, including the AFR's, and they only cost $650.
If some of you guys are thinking about this, get it now while it's cheap, cause when people start getting more 6.0l Blocks, the prices are going up. I know it's not a LT1, but I like the looks of the LT1 Camaro well over the LS1 style, but the LSX Engines are a hell of alot better designed Engine. 18* Heads, Factory Vortech-style Intake, and the way they cool is alot better. That, and they respond to bolt-ons very well, so might as well build a big setup, Cam it, and see how much *** I can stomp into the ground.

This gonna be a roll racer or are you going to put money into the chassis and suspension to make it run at the track?

Both, that is why I am going with a SS3200 Stall with a low STR and it still has Lockup. It will come off the line strong and pull hard, and if I am on the highway, it will toast people cause there is no big Stall eating it all up.

I'll tell you right now the 355 will be cheaper, but this setup for the cost will kick the **** out of alot of Cars, and for the power that will be gotten, it is probably the cheapest way to get it right now. Like I said earlier, it's all NA with no bottle, just sheer power, and I can see it being well into the low 11's..

i know i keep pressing this issue but almost all of us are on budgets and i want the best that i can afford. do you think a 370 would be significantly cheaper than a 402? i was thinking that with building a 370 and selling all of my lt1 specific parts would put the total out of pocket to be somewhat similar.

A 370 will be about $1100-$1500 cheaper cause you don't have to buy a Crank and Rods, to be at the minimum. I would atleast buy Forged Rods, so you are down to $750-$1000 cheaper. The Block doesn't have to be clearanced either, so there is money saved over a Gen I/II Engine project.
