Default Is this to big of a cam?

i was wondering what you guys thought. i am building a 383 with a eagle rotating assembly, and im going to port the crap out of the heads. i was wanting to use a 306 comp cam. this car will be my DD and i was wondering if you thought it was to big. I will be driving to and from school since im still in high school and work and of course driving around from time to time. what do you think. i am open to any other cam suggestions as well.

i would think it is a little big for daily driving but thats jut my opinion though. Hopefully this will help, BTW how many miles would u drive it a day, it may not be that bad for a little drive to school and work but if your driving all over i say too big IMO.

Thats to small for a 383, but it will work. Look ups Advanced Induction, Lloyd Elliot, Port Pros for some custom cams. I guess it all depends where you want to end up

My friend had a stock bottom end/stock heads with a 306 cam in his 94 A with a A4, 3.73s and 3200 stall, daily drove it with no probs. He said if he was building a 6 speed car he would have gone bigger on the cam.

Hacks - For a 383 I wouldn't go with an off the shelf cam. I would suggest calling one of the shops streetwarrior suggested and having a custom cam ground for your setup.

Lt1 - It isn't that bad in a m6 with gears and a tune. I did for a year and a half with supporting mods and put on heads after a year.

I like more lift and less duration...but I'm always poo-pooed around here for going too small...til I go racing and then its a different story...I'm no expert, but from my experience most go too big with duration and wind up with a mismatched combo of cam, converter, and rear gear...The CC306 is a proven cam and has worked well for some, but I think there are better choices...not necessarliy bigger choices, just better...

That was me LOL. Dumbass teenager wanted a big cam. Now here I am a week away from having a custom grind at my doorstep with much less duration, more lift, and a tighter LSA. I also had 4.10 gears and have since gone down to 3.42s. Should have done my homework the first time around.

No, dumbass. I was saying I was a dumbass teenager that wanted a big cam. Now I called you a dumbass

Probably going to sell it to try to recoup some of the money spent on the custom grind and associated parts. It only has roughly 2k miles on it.

Can't really say. The duration is cut back a lot, 22x/23x @ .050. Added lift, tightened up LSA. I should have the cam in the next week.

I don't necessarily think my cam is too big but I wish I had a tighter LSA myself. If I had money and time and patience (none of the 3), I would try that 230/236 cam I have been seeing.
