Default LT1 gearing?

So i looked on my door to find the "GU2" or "GU5" code....and cant seem to find it....Then i checked glove box and the sticker is there....but about 90% of it is gone and a little piece of it is there with a few codes.....is there anyway i can obtain a new sticker or figure out my gearing?

"Pull the diff cover and count the gears" method, or take your vin to the dealer. I think they can still print off your RPO sheet.

Or just put in 3.43 and KNOW what's in there

its pretty easy to figure your gearing out, especially with 2 people and positraction. one person gets under the car and rotates the driveshaft, and the other person sits beside the back wheel and counts how many times it goes around. if it takes 3 and 23/100 driveshaft turns to rotate the wheel once, you have 3.23's. if it takes 2 and 73/100 times you have a 2.73 and so on and so one. not perfectly accurate but good enough and a lot easier than pulling the cover

Not sure if this is true on the 94, but there are a couple of ways to tell on the 97:
Do you have first gear available on your console? If so, it has a 3.23.
Is your car speed limited to 110 mph? If so, it has a 2.73.
Do you have Z-rated tires? If so, it has a 3.23. This may not work for you, since the tires have most likely been changed.

You do not even have to do all of that crap pull the cover off and locate the numbers on the ring gear. You will find two numbers with a colon between them divide it and that will give you your gear ration. Or grab the vin call a dealer and they can tell you.

I went from 2.73s to 4.10s. Lets just say, you will notice a difference if you are starting with 2.73s. Sounds like you are on track.

No you don't have 2.73's. Pretty sure you have 3.23's. Just cause you ran a 14sec CAI only, doesn't mean you have 2.73s. They don't kill you that bad. I ran a 13.7 CAI only with 2.73s. Every car is different. You will still feel a big difference from 3.23s to 3.73s. Some people GAIN ET when getting smaller (numerically larger) gears, but that's only because they loose traction.

im tellin you its easier the way i explained than having to pull the cover, drain the oil, look for the number, put the cover back on and fill it back up with oil, but thats my opinion. i garuntee it takes less time

Phone call is quicker than all of the above. But by calculating the numbers on the pinion you know it's dead nuts on. I've never tried the other way so it works however you choose to do it.

no offense but that was a pretty dumb statement. thats like comparing apples to oranges. what was the weather like for both of you? how many miles do each of you have on your car? who can drive better? what kind of tires did you each have? there are so many variables, you can hardly make a comparison

slick 1851 u got to know wat gear is in your car factor or u cant buy a gear for it. if u have a 2.73 u have a 2 series carrier, and if u have a 3.23 u have a 3 series carrier then means the ring gears are not the same thickness u have to order the right gear or will not work . i know first hand lol

Not necessarily all true, at least not in '96. I have a '96 Z-28. I'm the original owner, and special ordered the car. It has the "Z" rated tires, so it's not limited to 110 MPH; does not have first gear on the selector; and does not have the 3:23 gear. Because it's my DD, and I didn't need the extra RPM while cruising back and forth to work on the interstate, I opted to stay with the 2:73s. Secondly, the 3:23s were a $250 option.

none taken, but it was street tires, both were automatics...as far as weather obviously hav eno clue, but you can still make somewhat of a comparison...but i do see your point....i guess i consider myself a decent driver cuting 2.0 and 1.9 60s on fairly decent street tires....then again i could be garbage lol

Heres the easiest way, assuming you have stock sized tires and wheels.

Take it for a drive, get it up to 60 MPH.

If your sitting right around 1800 RPM in overdrive, you have 3.23s

If your sitting right around 1500 RPM in overdrive, you have 2.73s.

I agree, special order cars can vary. Since some extremely high percentage of cars are bought straight off the lot, special order cars must be excluded. However, you also make my point. Your car came with Z rated tires so the speed limiter is higher than 110. You do not have 1st gear selectable, so you have 2.73s (in 97, and apparently 96). For cars purchased off the lot, the two came together in a package AFAIK.
I subsequently looked up the 94 owners manual, and first is always selectable, so it is not true for his car. Just an observation.
