The biggest problem would be finding an LT1 that didn't need rings and bearings.

Depends on weight and a few other things but cam only in a REALLY light car ie 3300 or less could actually go 10.9s easily. That Joe O cam went low 11s and was 3400ish I think. So it can be done, just depends on what you want the car to look like, LOL...

It depends on how much you are willing to spend on drivetrain, but mid tens should be achievable. 10.90's would be easy. It won't happen if you are unwilling to turn 7000 rpm (like the LS1 cam only guys). The first upgrade that you need to make is DFI.

congrats on the LS1 swap, i did my '93 z28 about 5 years ago. hated it at first, but its grown on me.

as for the cam only LT1, my t/a has gone 7.13@97 in the 1/8 so far. i ported my own heads, and im sure they arent all that baddass. i wish i would have put some stockers back on it. basically, its dang near cam only.
ive been trying to shift it at around 6500, but the trans doesnt have a manual valvebody, so its tagging the 7,000 limiter on the nitrous passes. 6.61@102 on a 125 shot, btw.

Do some research on that setup, it's getting into the low 11's, high 10's very easily on all motor.
Find an LT1 without spray, just Heads/Cam doin that for under $6500, cause that is my estimated cost.
my recipe for a cheaper alternative to what your doing is:
stock LT1
230/236 cam
heads ported by me
low 11's on motor, mid-low 10's on the 125 shot.

WAAAAYYY less than $6500.

There is all kinds of ways to do it, mine has alot of potential for the future setups.
I have the best Heads/Intake Combo for the money on the Market right now, don't even need to Port them.
Look at the times that you have in your sig for both of them cars.. that LS Engine is basicallly the reason why I am goin to the LS2 Stroker.

Hey guys I am going to build a cam-only race car.
What is a street-friendly cam that will still pull good numbers for cam only?
it does not seem liek your building a race car

Gizmo and some of you other guys are correct. My car leaves a lot on the table. But my car was never meant to be a all out race car. My car is a street car first and a bracket car secondly. I run 3.73 gears, 3200 stall lockup converter, stock transmission,10 inch Bias ply tires, stock suspension (except air bag in right rear spring). That being said at 3327 lbs I believe 11.15 119.86 is respectable with my stockhead cam only lt1. Without a doubt with a looser converter, radials, alt. belt off,and put my 10bolt back in I could run 10.80's. Let someone run faster than my 11.15 and i'll show you Frank95z

This is smack in the middle of the rebuild list on my LT1 - started reading too much and getting confused, build would have cost a good 20K if I'd gone a swap route.

Now I'm just thinking about heads/cam only for about the same reason - keep it mostly stock except for the block. Has anyone done a bore/piston/cam/rods/ on an LT1 and kept it streetable?

Yes, I did a list copy of what Gizmo posted and what it cost when he did it. Prices have gone up, some of that will have to be left to compromise...I think.

Gizmo My current combo is deadly consistent and goes rounds. I can also go to the store and work with my current setup. As I stated earlier I know I'm leaving some on the table. By the way I still have heater/defroster,power abs brakes, and power steering doesn't sound like a race car does it Frank95z
