Sound like a supercharger?

Like he said ^^^. It might not be the belt. Usually pulleys get binded and make noises. Check the belt for glazing or if it has too much tension. You could use a mechanic stethoscope and listen to each accessory for the noise.

supercharged LT1 ???!
on a serious note ... do as deltat had stated above. if that doesnt work, then it may be your power steering fluid level is low. this can make it sound like a blower.
hope this helps

Easy fix: Take a super thick crayon (any color to you see fit(tire markers work better too) while the belt is turning put (at IDLE SPEED!) let the crayon rub on the inside of the belt. The sound will vanish.

Yea, when you're running anything over 1000w you really should run a "Bass Cap". Really wouldn't hurt to get your alternator built up either. I think the 140s can easily do 210.

sounds like a bad belt or pulley. even if you recently changed a belt and they gave you the wrong size, it could make the p/s pulley squeel badly. i had advance give me a wrong v belt for my g/fs cutlass and it made her p/s scream lol. if it's the right size belts and all, try spraying belt dressing or WD40 in the area that's making the noise on the belts and hit the pulleys too.

I dunno about WD40 :O You want it to grip the pulleys after all. A bit related experience is when I was really young and my 10spd's front break would squeal pretty bad when I applied it. So... WD40... WHOOOOOPS No accident or anything, since I Had back break, but I tell you, that wasn't one of my Eureka moments!

Well I had a similar case myself about a year ago and it was a bearing in the alternator. I just bought a rebuild kit and did it myself, but you can just buy a complete rebuilt alt as well.
I heavily suggest investing in a capcitor. I have a stock alternator but I run a rockford fosgate cap and never had a problem since. I bet when your bumpin your headlights dim in and out as well right? That's half the reason I bought one, ghetto fab lol.

i never said it would whine...i said it would "squeel" and losaltos6 originally said his whistles. so before you quote and correct someone, make sure you got your facts straight.
And if you take the straw off and go to town... you won't have a mess of belt dressing or WD-40 on your hands. maybe you need to stay away from the fans then or put the straw back on. i never make a mess other than a small puddle on the ground when i'm finish... maybe i just perfected this technique from doing this work so long?
