Default Quick Cooling Question???????

I have a quick question and I hope it’s not a stupid one. I put the Hypertech 160 degree thermostat in my car over the winter time (when I didn’t drive it). The car runs super cool and that is great. My question is if the fans are not supposed to kick on until what 230 or something like, will the fans not kicking on till so high work against the thermostat and make it break down faster. Will the thermostat always be open or shut now? And is that good or bad? The reason I am asking is because now when I am stopped at a light it gets hotter and hotter will that kill my thermostat after a period of time being open or shut for too long and basically going what 70 degrees above what its supposed to be. Again I hope this is not a dumb question. Do I need to get it tuned so I can turn the fans on at 180-190ish? I just feel like i am watching the guage all the time waiting for it it peg in the red.

Thanks

Cody

t-stat's are mechanical and will open as soon as the coolant hit's the designated temp of the t-stat. Although i believe since your fans don't come on very early it takes longer to cool the coolant that goes through the radiator(unless you are moving) I would suggest either a tune to turn the fans on earlier or get a manual fan switch and turn them on whenever you want to(namely in town). That way you have the car running really cool all the time but when you know it's gonna get hot, you can have the fans on when you want to. Somebody else may chime in and correct me if i'm wrong...

i have a 160 also, and experience the same thing, my resolution, turn on the defrost. that cuts my fans on and keeps it at the same temp while sitting at a light.
