Yea, there is a quality in them. I just prefer the fact that the Duralast uses the factory design, as apposed to the standard Small Block Chevy design that the Hypertech uses.

Sara lou how much did the tstat cost? (ya see that formula 350) You kno i would get some fans from another lt1 or get some wiring from summit.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but it was under $20.

My cooling issues are PCM related, the fans work great, but the PCM is only seeing 185* when the car is overheating.
I've got another PCM from a 'B' car, just need to reprogram it, hence the "get off my ***" statement.....

Guy, the site showed $16 for me. Which was what the 180 cost that I returned to NAPA. Here's the link Sara gave me. http://autozone.com/addVehicleId,196...501B4930881337

Sara, have you changed the sensor on/in the water pump? It's right on top under the intake elbow (which I'm sure you know, but if not...). I changed mine, even though it was good :\ If you change it, don't tighten it too tight, and use some thread tape. I think I started to strip mine Had I tightened it just a wee bit more, it would've. So while I have a Hypertech 160º sensor around here SOMEWHERE (fell out of the darn box), I won't even dare install that.

yeah, the coolant sensor in the water pump housing was the first thing I changed out. I've also checked all the wiring to it, right voltage, ohms, etc.

The fans aren't the only problem going on, whenever I hook up a scanner now, it won't communicate with the PCM (tried 3 different software scanners). Just before Datamaster stopped working on it, it started throwing every code in the PCM (about 100 of them!!) so i'm pretty sure it all stems from the PCM being shot.

It will run cooler with the 160* on normal cruising. But it will still climb to the fan 'turn on' temp whenever you hit traffic, idle, etc.

Soon as I get this PCM sorted I will be changing the fan activation temp. I'm lucky at the moment as I don't hit much traffic, but on occassion that I do, the temp rises quickly.
