For the M3 its not as much as you would think. Full bolt-ons, tune, suspension, and some drs and you will have him if he is stock. No need for ported heads or cam.

I know what the stock stall is. He wants a daily driver, not a strip car. Sure, you CAN run a 3000+ stall on the roads, but the gas mileage goes down the drain. @ $3/gal we are already crunched for gas. It's already $50 just to fill up our damn tanks! I remember when it was only $45 to fill up all 38gal in my Suburban -_-

with 352rwhp from my ls1 ss I can beat them pretty damn good, and a good all bolt on cam lt1 should beat my ls1
When my LT1 car was stock it was trapping 102, with headers, catback and a CAI I was trapping 107

so like i said, all bolton auto should be trapping 105-107 which is around where a stock m3 is, where it will make it a drivers race. i dont see where i was misleading?

I used to work with a guy that owned an M3. The first time we played, I almost rearended him on the 1-2 shift out of a toll booth.
Every time we lined them up side by side, I got thim by around 4 in the quarter with my stock 95Z M6.
They do hang pretty well on the top end though so do not try to pull them from a high speed roll. We tried some runs up to 150+ after I removed the speed limiter & they are pretty close on the top end, so run from a stop if you can.

My next car was supposed to be an 05 M3 Convertible blue on black that my dealership took in on trade. I had convinced the wife but decided to drive it for a while before I signed up on it. (the perks of working at a dealer!). After about a week of driving it back to back with my bolt on 99 Cobra I realized that it was not much of an improvement on my Cobra. So I thank BMW because without them I would not have started looking at C5's! And from freeway speeds my Cobra ate M3's for lunch so much for there high rpm power!

Dont' do anything with your stock rear, just find one that someone is selling for 2 or 300 with 3.23's in it, it won't be as beat up too bad since it was auto. Much cheaper way to go, you'll spend more than that just on labor, not to mention at your mileage you should really replace everything in there, not just gears.
Spend saved $700 plus a few more or so on cold air intake, longtubes, 1.6rr, and a tune. Install everything yourself. Spank M3.

on the highway i have smashed many a M3 with intake and full exhaust and shifter. off the line is another story bc the bimmers have a hell of a drivetrain and good tires from the factory, they are out of the hole very quick. my friend used to have a 325 and he would just rev/dump/and take the hell off, then i'd run him down by the middle of 2nd.

I've seen quite a few e36's running 13.8/13.9. Only 240hp, but I think they're in the mid 2900lb range. A buddy of mine has one and the handling is great...but he has to spend $5 for every $1 I spend on mods to keep up.
