In LE1 HL, the HL stands for High Lift.
Basically, you get lift similar to an LE2 without the duration.
The result is more power than the LE1 but at a lower RPM than the LE2.
(Translation: Great for a stock bottom end that you don't want to rev to 6800-7000)

I have one in my car and I love it.

I will try to get some video and sound in a few weeks.
It will be tuned in around a month or two, but right now I am still chasing down knock retard.

First performance numbers.

I have not had time to get to the track yet plus I still have some tune issues, but I have some Datamaster logs to go on for now. I know these are not accurate like the track but for comparing one logged run to another I can see if progree is being made.

The Datamaster 1/4 calculation on my old motor was 13.3 seconds.
My new motor (see sig) is 12.8 seconds with Knock retard galore.

So I am already seeing a drop of 5/10 of a second, to start. Once the KR is in check there should be a great deal more. I can really tell when the timing is pulled.

The car is definitely faster especially in the upper RPM range, now it is time to concentrate on the tune. If anyone wants to review my datalog and comment please let me know.

thats badass! congrats. I just got done puttin a cam in my car and its a whole new car. Only question, why not LT's? I had the rk sport headers and sold um for some LTs. There a pretty small header from a side by side comparsion. IMO, get some LTs and get some more hp out of that beast. Looks pimp eaither way!

I chose the RK mids (near identical to AS&M's) since they maintain stock ground clearance and they allow me to switch between the catalytic converter and the bullet muffler in minutes. Sometimes in a rag top you just don't want the exhaust smell. Switch to cats on LT's would be a PITA.

I wouldn't characterize them as small, the primaries are still 1.75" just lie the LT's but have the slightly smaller collector. I am willing to give up a few HP to have those benefits. They have proven to be the next best thing to LT's.

When I get rid of the knock retard it will be screaming.

Man that would be great, only problem the car is a vert and is heavy.

It might also take running sticky tires to pull that off which I have no intetion of running unless dump the 10 bolt and upgrade. If I can hit mid 12's on street tires I will be very pleased.

I have the new tune and will be putting it in tonight, I should know real quick if there is an improvement. It should be adding a bit more fuel at WOT and tweaking the time tables at partial throttle.

I like what you did with the alternator and the MAF...that looks cool.

Nice attention to the details...looks VERY nice!

[QUOTE=wrd1972] I can really tell when the timing is pulled.

What does it feel like when the timing is being pulled? Trying to track down an issue with my LE setup. Do you have an LT4 KM? Mine feels like a fast surge at steady cruise. Not sure if it's actually knock retard though. Does your car pop through the exhaust when you let off the throttle?

When the timing is pulled it stops pulling hard at upper RPM's, really struggles above 6K. When the is no KR is just keeps climbing.

Yes I have the LT4 KM. I get no popping at all under any condition. I actually had the decel. popping on the old stock motor but it is not present on this motor.

I put the new tune in from Ion, the engine is getting more gas at WOT and the timing tables were tweaked some. There is a noticable improvement but I still have some minor KR. When i get it dyno tuned this should all go away.

I love it when I get a good run with zero KR, damn this thing is !@#$ing fast.

It ran low to mid 13's at the strip before, it must be in the mid 12's now or even better on stickies judging from the butt dyno and how fast the engine revs in every gear. The speedo hits 100 MPH very quickly.

Still working on getting some audio & video.

Have you verified whether the KR is false or not? What kind of timing are you running at WOT? How do you know that you need to add fuel at WOT?

I sent the datamaster logs to Ion. He made changes based on that and like I said it was an improvement. From looking at the spark plugs it appeared to be a bit lean early on.

I ran some torko in the gas and the KR remained, I am guessing the rest of the KR is false. I checked the plugs and there are no signs of detonation.

You might have to have him zero the knock tables out. I did this on my car because I couldn't get it to stop pulling timing.

Is this the same as "disabling" it.
