mixing the two will not hurt anything. i am a GM tech, and i have done it to my personal car numerous times. as far as gelling, i have seen it happen, but it is generally in a car that has run really hot or has had some stupid additive to the system. but definately if your coolant is brown, i SERIOUSLY doubt it is a coolant issue, that usually indicates CORROSION!

being that i have done it numerous times, and i have been into many lt1's that have been mixed and have seen no evident problems, thats my opinion. i could possibly be wrong, but if so i have to see it to believe it.

The only coolant that is compatible with DEX up here is ORANGE.....Haven't checked for a few months though..And even GM says not to use tap water...distilled only....that is what I have ever used, along with the PRESTONE ORANGE...

Im a diesel tech (apprentice) at the local Peterbilt Dealership. Mixing the two coolants won't hurt a thing. Not that I have seen on any trucks or in my personal vehicles. Everyone at the shop who has been there years backs that up too.
Just choose one color and try to stick with it. If some sort of situation comes along and you have no choice but to mix them, don't worry about it.

I would definitely see about getting some coolant in there. If the water is the slightest bit "hard," then calcium will eventually start caking onto your block, water pump, and radiator. Then cooling properties are virtually nill. I use the yellow universal coolant in most things to play it safe.

No it doesn't. You are 100% completely wrong and should never post that information here again. I mixed the coolant in my old car damn near 5 years ago and it still runs to this day without a single coolant related problem and never has had an issue.
