oil pump change
#3
I just changed my oil pan and pump in my 1995 z28 two weekends ago, put the car on ramps and used a motor lift to raise the motor a couple inches and it worked out ok. I will add the stock pan is a breeze compared to milodon's extra capacity pan to take in and out.

i went back to autozone and got the socket (special) changed it out and the needle keeps right up to the tach now but it still seems like i should have more psi when its hot its about 4-6 psi hot like around215 right about the red sometimes it touches. oil pump now?

If the motor lacks pressure then bearings should be suspect not the pump. The pumps are infinitely more durable and reliable than the bearings. The loose bearing allow oil to get through with less restriction and therefore less pressure.
Honestly though stock motors don't make a lot of pressure and the number should be of little concern. What you have to watch is for changes from normal behavior.

yeah i found that out worn bearings or spun do make for loss pressure with my 327 (only had 2,000miles) i did like to spin it to 8 grand. butthis car only has 109 on it and it was a gurage kept car andthe man that owned it was like 90 thats the only reason i bought it now i wish i would have just bought brand new, oh well tho im hoping its another 300 or less fix i,ve put like 1500 in it and ive only had it for 6mos

Long as you catch it before a bearing spins you can rebearing for cheap.
I do not have a guage with numbers I am just using a modified stock gauge so I can not say what correct numbers are but I think the stock oil pump pressure relief spring is only like 45psi so 50psi at high rpms would not scare me atall.
I would look for more input on what is normal idle pressure.
Also be aware that 5w-30, 10-w-30, 0w-30 are not all the same thickness and that the few available 0w-30s tend to be THICKER than the popular 5w-30s. They all fall in the 30wt RANGE but the 5w, 10w, 0w has nothing to do with the second number.

i think im going to take it to gm and have them do acouple hours of diagnosing and see what they come up with the motor still feels like the first day i drove it no valve train noises at all it still sounds like a normal fresh motor just maybe its becauseof hot hot it got here and so fast? that i didnt notice the pressure being so low in the colder months
