is the car stock?

if I'm not mistaken, stock cars will run up to 225* before the fans kick on. mine never did, but I bought my car in the winter, so it never really got hot. a friend of mine bought a '96 formula and was absolutely PISSED cuz he thought it was over heating. then I told him they all do that stock. he was still pissed, but was alright with it after a that.

any kind of tuning software (mail order, or even a hypertech) will take care of that problem.

When I bought my first 4th gen I thought it was going to overheat. It always freaked me out. But yeah, fan 1 kicks on at 225 and fan 2 on at 235 according to my stock pcm file. I've now have a 160 stat and fans programmed to come on earlier. Car never gets past 185 in the texas summer sitting in traffic.

it never gets to the red. it will sit 3/4 the way up the gauge at its hottest. it is stock, but i was thinkling of getting a hypertech. are they worth the 325 bucks?

not at all. i am not a fan of the hypertech junk. you can get a mail order tune for a fraction of that price. granted you are stock, a 160 thermostat ($10-$20 bucks), mail order tune ($100 from madz28.com) ... should fix that issue. if you have a local tuner, they would probably charge you even less to do a quick fix for you.

other things you can do, drain the fluid, and flush the radiator until it is clean. a howto can be found here:

An inexpensive way is to hook up a fan switch and get the lower temp stat.

If your still wanting to tune the cars computer.. check out LT1edit or tunercat programmers OR do the custom tune thing. The hypertech would do the trick simple and easy but doesn't offer much more for its whopping price tag.

Ya a fan switch, 160 stat, and you are looking at 30 bucks ... some labor ... and it will be solved. I forgot about the fan switch ... but living in Florida my a/c is on year round almost. I tuned my fans myself, did the 160 stat ... and in 95 degree summer traffic my car barely gets above 180.

hypercrap would work just fine to reprogram the cooling fans for a 160* stat....if you can ind one for cheap, i would go ahead and get it, and then sell it later when you have more mods that require a better tune. i am running a 160*, manual fan switch, and hypertech tune (using the word "tune" very very loosely! )

Wire up a fan switch. I just used some speaker wire and a cheap toggle from autozone. The fan relay has a constant 12 volts, and all you have to do is tap into the ground side of the relay, then run a wire to your toggle switch, and run the other side of the switch to ground. Then when you flip the switch, the fans turn on high. One of the first mods I did to my car. Also, how long have you had your car/what color?
