Default just ordered headers, have a few ?s

i was wondering what types of tools i need to swap them. i dont have many but im beginning to build a collection. mainly what i was wondering was what size sockets, wrenches, etc i need and what kind of extensions. while i am in there i will be doing the plugs as well.

edit: i will be keeping the stock catback on there for the time being. where can i find a 3" to 2.5" reducer?

A basic socket and wrench set should be all you need. Biggest you'll need is a 7/8" wrench for the O2 sensor. Typical header bolts are 7/16", Y-pipe flange and collector bolt sizes vary. A simple extension set should work fine (3, 6, 10 in length I think).

Stubby (short) wrenches come in VERY handy working in the tight spaces around the manifolds/headers. I know it sounds stupid, but tie a string in a loop through the closed end, and put it over your wrist. That way WHEN you drop the wrench (and you will) you won't be fishing for it.

get the small set of deep sockets, like 10mm, 11mm, 13mm etc because it can be hard to reach some of the bolts with the headers on, you will need some O2 extensions and depending on the year of your car you will need O2 sims.

im getting the emissions deleted from the pcm and corvette O2 sensors. i was planning on getting deep sockets soon anyway so that is good. i went ahead and bought a large sent of wrenches as well as jackstands and a floor jack. i have a set of 1/4" inch drive sockets, should i step up to 1/2"?

no you want to go as small a deep socket as you can find because there is limited room and you wont be able to get anything bigger down there, the smaller deep sockets are good because they get by the headers without any problems.

they are bosch part# 13111. when you get long tubes you need extensions for the O2 sensors as they will be relocated farther back. you can either splice the old harness with the kit that comes with the headers or buy an extension. the other option is to buy the above O2 sensors, which have a longer harness and dont need an extension to reach.

i have a new question about what came with the headers. i am assuming the black tubing and white wire is for extending your O2 harness. i know the black bolts are the heade rones. what is the silver screw, two washers and nut for? also what are the little red things for? are they for the O2 sensor as well?

That's a good F@#*&^% idea! Wish I knew that before I did my headers.

Did you get emission or race style, if you got emission then they are for the back EGR pipe where it meets the header, and the little red things are for your o2 ext.

That Silver Bolt, 2 Washers and a Nut are for the EGR Pipe, sounds like you got the Emissions ones.
Headers are not that bad to do, you might end up unbolting the Motor Mounts and raising the Engine.
Personally I buy the O2 Extentions, like the ones from Thunder Racing..but those Sensors that you have will work. I have never used the Wiring that comes with the Headers for splicing.
As far as tools go..I have a little $70 Stanley Set that is about 150 pieces, I have bought some others on the side, but I can pretty much tear the whole Car apart with it..I've done that a few times now..

my best advice is that you buy 12point headers bolts and get the craftsman professional end wrench set at sears (very thin head design) makes getting to a couple of the bolts easier
