Default Mystery of the Hovering Shifter

My neighbor's 95' TA has a 6-speed and whenever you step on the gas very hard at all the shifter raises up about 2-3inches. It doesn't get hard to shift or anything but its kinda strange. Anyone else have this problem?

My guess would be motor mounts along with the normal flex of the trans mount. Run a Energy Suspension trans mount. It has metal in it that lock when it flexes too far.

Your motor will hardly move while revving it. It's not under load.

The shifter moving around is normal. Think about it, it's directly connected to the transmission which is getting lots of stress. If it's really bad, then a new tranny mount will help.

lol^, But if you replace the tranny mounts/bushings with poly, it'll fix it stiff... My stick doesn't even move at all when i look at it...

It moves up cause the Tranny Mount is gone. The reason it moves up when you gun it is cause the Torque Arm is mounted to the back of the Tranny, and the Geometry of the Suspension when you gun it causes the Torque Arm to push up, taking the Tranny with it.

Motor or tranny? Motor, just go with the energy suspension poly ones. For the tranny, I would go with the LT4 solid rubber mount. Stiffer than stock, but doesn't transfer as much movement as the poly mounts.

Again, the Poly has a limit before the metal catches. So it only gives so much. It also means it'll out last them all It's the benefit of a solid, with the 'comfort' of a rubber.
