Default 409 Storker?

Any one every heard of someone doing this? I meet a guy last night that just bought a 97ss from Alabama for like $30K that has a nasty 409cu Stroker... I didn;t know if this was even possible but he said they used a stock lt1 block.. And that Joe overton had some some work to it?

The Impala guys like them for the Nostalgia 409 brings to Impala kind of like the 396 cachet for the rest of the Chevy guys.

Same stroke 3.875 stroke as the normal LT1 396 its just bored to 4.1 vice 4.03. I've heard that sometimes the .1 over bore is too much for LT1 blocks.

World makes a 454ci SBC. Convert it to reverse flow and drop the LT1 setup on it and you'd have the biggest LT1

Actually I believe most Impala guys with 409s went the 4" stroke route with 4.030 bore for 408.2 or have heard of 4.035 for 409.2.

If i dont sell the block will be building a 4.155 bore and 4.000 stroke ends up at 434cid.

409 is a 100 over 396 and wont make alot more power, and you will have to resleave/ replace the block next build. go 396 youl get to 409 after a few builds ,thought about that route so id have a "formula 409"

at that size the block tends to crack under high pressure.

I know a guy who has done several 409 LT1s without issue. What does he know though he is still using the stock opti, WP, LT4 ED timing set, 4L60E, 8.5" 10 bolt and a whole list of other "poor" parts to run mid 9s with a 4400lbs car. If he would just listen to all the kids on the internet I bet he could have had a car that runs 11s for the same money .

I have stock opti(msd cap/rotor), cam driven wp, stock replacement timing set, 4l60, and 7.5in 10bolt(although I admit second one...on borrowed time till the 12bolt goes in).

They will either learn from experience that more isnt better, or go broke and take up another hobby first

That is still pushing the limits of the SBC 350..
I know someone that wants to make a 400ci SBC out of a Carb'd 350 to try and run with my 402 LSX EFI Engine..he doesn't understand the amount of money that will need to go into it.

Like Dwayne said, it's just a 4.000" stroke and .030" over piston LT1 (408.2)

You can get a Callies Magnum crank made to 4.010" stroke and get the magic 409 ci

An LT1 409 makes very good torque. I've been wanting to make one for one of my Impala SS cars and that will probably be my next project.
